    New Hikvision Setup

What little I know, it is possible for a PTZ camera to far enough away that it can send image but will not respond to PTZ commands.

    System Update

Mostly good news, the install and aiming of 13 cameras only required 4 hours labor, half of what I budgeted. While the 5MP cameras support 20fps the DVR limits those same cameras to only 12fps. My one hidden camera was 960H but because my DVR likes it it is now 5mp. I wanted to send along a screen capture but for some reason SmartPSS software does not make prt-scr easy. (10) 5mp cameras were installed 3.7mm lens. (3) 8mp cameras were installed 2.8mm lens, that is least possible zoom and maximum cross coverage. With my one dog on my patio I have him on 4 cameras at one time. When he scans my evergreens for bird nests at night I can now quickly find him. With mostly 2.1MP cameras I have to focus my cameras on most critical views. With 5mp or 8mp I can include broader views and still capture better detail. With least zoom my DORI distances are also minimum. My Identify distances range from 20'-30'; fine for my small property. It is the price one pays for not using zoom but on my small property I am not losing anything. As disk reporting goes I have used 2.36 TB out of 36TB in 8 days or .295 TB per day. So I should have a 122 day archive, as a guess. Night IR is so good I have put off trying night color. I will some day. Perhaps later this week. In spite of all the expectations of doom and gloom I am well pleased with my investment. Thanks to one and all for their gracious assistance.

    System Update

from seller website: THESE 8MP HD CAMERAS ARE ONLY COMPATIBLE WITH OUR LATEST 4K DVR UNITS WITH MODEL NUMBERS ENDING IN (-4 AND -512). OLDER RECORDERS ARE UNABLE TO DISPLAY 8MP IMAGES. my DVR is a -512 ending. ===== while typing this I logged into dahua trade I would like to learn how to do that. Second time: Can I buy Dahua direct? ============ Have any support that NVR and DVR never support AI drives? Install is this next Tuesday AM, I'll report on how things do or do not work out for me.

    System Update

Let me sort this out line by line. I may add cameras later but 32 camera DVR was my method to use (4) 10TB hard drives. and I wanted the most advanced analytics possible with coax. I need a 10G switch because I have (2) 10G workstations and a 10G NAS. monitoring 16 cameras does bog down my network speeds, or at least it did at one time. Cameras are AI, DVR is AI, Seagate drives are AI. I don't like talking cameras. I don't know how to log into Dahua trade. Can I buy Dahua direct? DVR spec is 4k(1fps-7fps) or 5mp(1fps-12fps) all channel. we will see how that goes. Cameras max out at 15fps each, currently (6) 2.1mp cameras record continuously and 10 record only on motion. DVR is a CSP-32xtr-512 I assume it is a Dahua? Thank you

    System Update

I have a 16 camera cctv system, it is about 16 years old and I find myself updating hardware about every 4 years. In 2018 I upgraded my cameras to 2.1MP (1920x1080). The first generation of Starlight cameras were just available then but I didn’t have $700 to spend on each camera then. 4MP was hot stuff in 2018. About 2 weeks ago I had a lightening strike. It works out that all I needed is a new surge protector. I did learn that my home owner’s policy “The Hertford” did not want to pay up because by their logic “electronic” stuff is not covered. While I was diagnosing and sorting out the damage, at the same time I updated my research on CCTV hardware. The newer cameras and advanced DVR analytics have a great deal of attraction for me. My existing coax wiring is fine. It would be an expensive PITA to pull new IP POE all over. My lot is only 100x100 so I don’t need to see anything much past 65’. I have always used Alibi (Hikvision) hardware until now but since Alibi would not sell me the professional grade cameras and DVR I want, I went shopping and went with Dahua this time. My 2021 parts list: (9) 5MP night color bullet cameras (2) 8MP night color bullet cameras (1) 8MP starlight dome (1) 32 camera enterprise “Extreme Series” DVR with four 10TB SATA hard drives. All cameras are motorized vari-focal, between 0.030- 0.005 lux, and WDR. My minimum “Recognize” distance should be about 60 feet or better. My minimum “Identify” distance should be 25-30 feet. Naturally the only place I might consider using a microphone is the dome camera at my front door and that is the only camera without a built in microphone. There was a time not that long ago I might have done the install myself. That is no longer possible. Lord willing I hope to get the cameras and DVR installed very soon. I am keeping four interior cameras of the 16 total cameras. With new 1500VA UPS battery, four 10TB AI surveillance Seagate hard drives, one 10G Switch, (3) surge protectors; my hardware budget is just under $5,500. I will be using new PC software and a new phone app. There is always a learning curve. I look forward to smart searches by face detection and vehicles. When I get all sorted out to my satisfaction I’ll post updates. 8mp night color cameras should be sweet.

    NVR Hybrid upgrade

Thank you Mr. CCTVProd for getting back to me. I wish someone, anyone, had read my posting and mentioned: "Hey those two units are not even the same camera standard." I went with the Alibi which is "HD-TVI" standard based, saved $80, and that was a mistake. Had I known then what I know now I should have purchased the Federal unit which is "HD-CVI" standard and would have had a much better selection of cameras to choose from. It's my own fault for not doing my research with due diligence. But had anyone jumped in and shared that helpful bit they would be my hero now. I added 4 more exterior 2MP cameras to my existing system. I had a CCTV professional do the work. Good thing because a lot went wrong on the job, starting with attic temperatures well into 3 digits. My "clever" neighbors; and I mean that in the most derogatory sense, figured out where my bullet cameras pointed and were exploited gaps in coverage. Hence all the new cameras are dome cameras. I also went with a brand new 20 amp power supply. Monday I'll have the same guy pull cat6 wire and I'll hard wire my 2 flat screen TVs and my 2 OPPO DVRs to my home 16 port network switch. Right now when I pull up a movie from my NAS ( via wireless) I may get a 30 second delay while the very large file downloads. Running Gigabit Ethernet through out the whole house should make movie watching snappier than when it was wireless. Thank you again Mr. CCTVProd. Peace on earth to Men of Good Will.

    NVR Hybrid upgrade

I have my 8 camera residential system which is about 5 years old. About a month ago the display indicated that the NVR was recording but in fact it was not. I replaced the hard drive with another surveillance rated drive and this Friday I went looking for a recording and learned it still was not recording. I'm thinking either I have a second bad hard drive or the NVR (Nuvico) is bad. Either way I am in the market for a 16 camera HD-TVI Hybrid unit. Top contenders would be either an: Alibi 5000 series 16 Channel unit. (ALI-HVR5016H) or a 16 Channel Hybrid Federal 960H unit (HRBDVR-FE016-DH-160) Does anyone have first hand experience with either of these units (or Companies) or can anyone recommend a similar unit with which they had outstanding experience? Thank you. Timothy
