If you want the least expensive option it might be cheaper to put up a sensor operated light for out of hours. You wouldn't need such expensive cameras then & the light might spook any intruder.

If you are logging in at user level not supervisor level (to restrict the operators options) then you will need to tick the allow fullscreen box for this user to log in fullscreen. It could be worth trying to log in without the fullscreen function 1st ?

Have you given the user that you asked it to log in as authority to use full screen mode ?

Usually on this type of upgrade it is preferable to sort out this type of situation with the customer 1st. If their existing system is still working we would try to keep the old system totally working but extend the camera feeds to the computer, easy if the multiplexer has video in & out. The problem with these situations is that normally the customer doesn't realise that he still wants the old monitors until they have gone.

No problem with helping people out, do it all day on the phone. The problem I get is when customers want you to sell them equipment at trade prices but hold their hand right thru the install & beyond. I have sold to people in the past & told them "this is trade, no help" because of the low prices, they are always back with problems. They expect us to supply the professional stuff at e-bay prices but give the back up. Try & get PC backup if you buy a computer from a big supermarket.

Agree with Rory, the unit is cheap, but I have some working in small shops where the owners merely want to zoom in on the cash register & maybe pan between 2 cash registers on the same counters. They work o.k. for that & just let the owner zoom in without the staff knowing. The image quality is good if the lighting is stable. Horses for coarses

Avermedia do linux systems, we used them a few years ago but had bad networking problems with them. The systems themselves were stable as stand alone, there are a couple still running in local libraries where they didn't want the networking. I think they have sorted the networking problem out now ? I have used these cameras with their own controllers for simple installations & they seem to work O.K. This is quite a simple camera & should work O.K. but I haven't tried it with Geo. Iris & focus should adjust automatically.

What is the make of camera? We use Lilin with no problem but as installers we have access to a Joystick controller which we usually use to set the presets & tours. This lets us prove the telemetry seperate from the computer (its also quicker on presets). Can you get access to a joystick/keyboard to test your camera? Are you sure the camera address is set to 10 ? I had one of my installers who wasted hours because he had the dip switches the wrong way & camera number was 64 not 1 as he thought.

The problem with most diy's is that they listen to more than 1 person. They get advice from the "fat man down the pub" want to buy equipment off us at e-bay prices and then keep coming back/phoning for advice on their unsatisfactory system.

Weve stopped using these cameras because of this problem & now use seperate cameras & I.R lights which seems to cure it.

Its not possible to buy the equipment for that.

Hi Why don't you contact the seller by phone & find out if they have tested the camera that they sent you with I.R. I have had some dealings with this company & they are very helpful. Ask to speak to Roy or Billy.

We use domes by Merit LinLin . They work fine with the Geovision system. We have systems working with up to 10 speed domes. If you want good prices pm me. Unfortunately they don't have the object tracking.

What is the question? Most PTZ domes can be daisy chained with different addresses, if the dvr will support 1 x ptz then it should support any number of ptz cameras. We have systems running with more than 10 ptz cameras.

The computer part of our business is closed today (Good Friday) sd I need to find the brand from them. It is not a KVM switch only a monitor (+ audio if needed) extender. Belkin do a KVM extender that we have used successfully.

Anything that you intend using in a petrochemical plant will need to be "intrinsically safe" & have the certificates to prove it. Best bet is to do whatRory suggests & speak to Extreme, they should be able to point you in the right direction.

You will find suitable cameras & I.R lighting on RF Concepts site at good prices. You can phone them & ask for advice, tell them I recommended you. They really are good people to deal with.

The problem with the cameras with the built in I.R. lights is that the slightest spiders web (that is invisible in the day) reflects the I,R back & you get a white out. The image is still perfect in the day light. If you have seperate I.R lights then the spiders web on the front of the light does not have any effect. RF Concepts is a good company to deal with.

If you are taking the camera cables straight into the loft from eaves mounted cameras most of your cabling will be in the attic. Why don't you consider a low end 4 camera dvr situated in the attic or maybe a cupboard that goes up to the ceiling, many houses have this. You could then install a modulator to distibute the picture to your existing TVs over the existing aerial system. Result no new cabling in the house. I understand that this may not be exactly suitable in your circumstances but as long as you don't want to review the dvr every day its an easy solution. Don't go for cameras with nuilt in I.R lights as spiders can make them usless in the night.

Are you saying that you can get a picture if you plug the camera straight into the screen but not if you pulg it inot the dvr? If the above is the case then you meed a stronger signal from the camera. DVRs generally need a stronger signal than just a monitor. If it is a 12 volt camera look at where the power supply is located. If it is far away from the camera try it with a temporary power supply close to the camera.
