    License Plate Setup

the extreme/bosch cams have video out just like a normal camera. they used to make a lower cost regX model ?

How to find a hidden camera?

if your in the room why would they turn it off.. [ah maybe for important guests] but yes one of those flasher style optical detectors is a must. but there are ways of defeating that also. shutters/optics/mirrors etc Spy store RF gear can be detected like a beacon in the night -gov gear not so easy...
  3. the Acti cams are slightly better than the Axis at low light, Im sure fluro light wont be a problem. Make sure you activate the 50/60 and fluro mode for optimal results. z

    IR Illuminators....

-mount your illuminators away from the cams insects wont matter that much. -IR cut filter cams are the go -LED IR illuminators for sure [you get what you pay for] 10year life with ease -you will need to match the cam sensor to the IR -and do testing -unless your worried about flying snakes? the LED IR illuminators put out a 10th of the heat that bulb style do my 2c

    License Plate Setup

any long range IR cam will fail at night, will be ok during the day. the IP cam Idea is better if you can get it on the right angle. [and have enough illumination IR or spotlights] nothing beats a ANPR camera for this otherwise you will just get whiteout at night. A combo of both would be good 2x ANPR 2x IP and a overview camera. I am in the process of designing my own ANPR cameras will post the results [one day] z

    Attempted Burglary

holly lack of resolution batman..... I also had a go for you, but that system is the typical cheapo system that gets pushed out on mass by security companies. the only way it would of been use is if you had a experienced CCTV guru with a handful of lenses to customize your system -and put the cameras in the correct positions. You would not get a license plate unless you set up a ANPR system or at least a descent zoom . Sell your system and replace it with a IP camera system [with IR] and this time use the choke points ! they will be back !

How to find a hidden camera?

a better way is to detect the 15khz sync osc in the camera as the TX could be 10ghz you wont detect that with spy store gear. my 2c

    Good IR illuminators

yes extreme stuff is good tho over priced, Once Bosch took over the service here has been really bad -so bad I dont deal with them.

    Is Geovision any good?

yes geo is great, I have a 1120 that's been running 16 cams flat out for years and has not missed a beat, the PC died once not the card !
  10. 100m of cable might have to much voltage drop for sure. what you can do is use two 12v batteries in series to make 24v and use a regulator to send out 12v+the drop might be 15v or so. easy to make with a LM317 etc http://www.aaroncake.net/circuits/supply.asp for example z

    Lens Question

Talking purely IR based ANPR: have a look at the extreme/bosch ones. I have used the regx its great but for short distances. In this case you would need a 75mm lens or so and IR to get 100 feet. [it would be a box camera/filter/separate IR makeup.]

    Lens Question

sorry to state the obvious. A license plate camera will have NO trouble reading from 100 feet away.. but if you want to do it DIY an IR bandpass filter and matching IR illumination at the filters freq can work well. but it can get expensive. z

IR illluminator - from spot to flood?

ah I have the answer for that one, just use some diffuser from an old fluro light -works wonders on IR. Instead of white-out on subjects you`ll have nice contrast. z
  14. deep in the settings there is a 50-60hz setting try that, also there is a fluro lighting one also. z

    Power over Ethernet

yes most cisco`s do 16w per port, there are high power POE switches coming out. the new cisco 1252 wireless access points cant run POE from the switch you have to use the power injector. [still POE tho] most POE switches can sense the class of device and adjust the voltage range to suit. the 50v allows for heaps of voltage drop on long runs. z
  16. right on sawbones ! If you buy dome cams with IR cut filters and use separate IR illuminators you will have a great system. use IP cams and even better tho the price is x4 ! z
  17. i`ll be impressed when a car dives past at night and you can read the rego ! or a grab the face of a dude on a pushbike... etc etc ...
  18. dont knock Axis camera station ! I use it everywhere on XP its stable, and on motion detect 1Tb HDD goes a long way. z

    remote DC iris controll

play around with the voltage divider and values maybe a 10k pot -im sure if you used a 10 turn trimmer you could get it just right. you plug it into the camera some lenses have manual trim also z

    remote DC iris controll

    try a linear Pot

    Glare from road blinding camera

Another angle pol filter mmmm some other ideas : backlight mode camera cmos sensor like on mobitix m12 can handle it. IR lighting dual lens camera one with a pol filter the other IR >arecont 3130 style z
  22. dont agree with any figures they would only suit one type of camera/lens/DVR/lighting scenario. At night it would be different and ANPR filtered IR systems way out here... Any lens change or even angle will throw that formula out easy. for sure no compression, again they are all minimum limits with mega pixel who cares ! I used to run no compression on some systems to get every tiny bit of data. >in the analog world. I agree to baseline a camera system yes talk pixels.... In a properly set up system with a choke point and the camera strait on with the correct lens & lighting you should not have to worry at all about pixels. should be able to tell the time from the guys wrist watch as he drives past..
  23. some cameras do this for low light mode.!?? If its not that check the power supply then a video test next. If you have a CRO you could check the video signal for color burst etc... How long is the cable run ? & model of cam ?

good choice, do you need IR ?
