  1. look like a clone of the cisco one for high power
  2. The way of finding it would be to use a oscilloscope to see what interference is present on the lines. I have found many problems with data and power running too close to AC power. It induces all sorts of nasties
  3. for sure, there are only a few that do integrated IR well. Just because its dark does not mean you have to use IR. Im finding white LED systems are far superior if covertness is not required. with IR you have to have just the right amount to get the correct contrast, too little its noisy too much white out. White LED's just seem more the better . And you can still go semi covert with them using motion detectors to turn them on if someone gets to close. tho a top notch IR system is till hard to beat -im still in both camps there nothing better when a 'crim' gets half way down a driveway and see's the ominous glow of IR then turns and runs ! z
  4. so you think a camera should be filling up the system with a picture of a door 24x7 ? Running 5sec before and after mode will capture anything needed.
  5. for sure, but I use motion detect mode which solves most of those problems only the overveiw cameras run continuous.
  6. I do white light units, I have been designing my own including IR versions. IR has its purposes but WL @6000K is fantastic even a 1w unit will provide more detail and information than a grainy IR image ever will. I did lots of testing from 1 to 300W to see how low I could go ! z

    Advice on a new camera?

From tamron : Your object distance 30 m. To cover a horizontal area of 5 m and a vertical area of 3.75 m, you will need * For 1/3" cameras: a focal length of 28.8 mm. * For 1/2" cameras: a focal length of 38.4 mm. so a 5-50mm lens will be fine z
  10. DIY is fine if you can spend a few years getting the expereince up to fine tune your system, otherwise you need a guru in there. Especially if your being targeted all the time. z
  11. you mean the axis mini IP encoder and "reversing camera". http://www.axis.com/products/cam_m7001/index.htm z
  12. Dont forget that night and day images have vastly different size`s , as does the power supply system if your are using infrared. ps I use the HP/compaq proliant series servers. [like the DL380 G5] Spent about 5 years building them and are happy with there performance and servicability z
  13. NO bank will show customers security footage ? goooooood eeeevening sir...... what was your pin number again..let me hold it......so you dont forget.... you could win a prise....

$$ Average System Setup Cost $$

the people who spent $800 eventually come to me for a $8000 system for something that works. It may take a few robberies and thefts and being made to look like an idiot when they try and ID a face or car rego for the police z

    Will a 1/2" CCD perform better than a 1/3"?

yes, usually tho the devils in the details of the sensor, lens, electronics etc. there are some 1/4'' sensors that also perform very well. I can vouch for most of Bosch range its good stuff, there extreme CCTV even better. Really you need to look at the spec's not the sensor tho 1/2'' is "higher end" z
  17. look for 'explosion proof' housings they are made of SS steel
  18. you wont go wrong with axis, they have separate joysticks if you need them also. and software ones built in. Arecont is also good stuff. make sure you get the DN models tho. z
  19. I use the Geo card PTZ functions and they work fine for the occasional use if use are using it Operationally get a PTZ joystick
  20. massive dynamic's -just kidding
  21. that's right you can have a couple of cams running at full frame rate saturating the network or you can have 100 running at 1FPS . you have to find the balance Running GB switch links and VLANS can help but with IP cams you need network experience, otherwise your just fudging it. z

    camera layout

hey I like your pool ! I would spend more on the trouble spots. front entrance to get a good ID of cars and people coming in. Area's where there are taggers etc extra cams and IR Are they coming inside the complex ? or from the outside.? looks like a walking track at the rear -classic burglar highway ! For such a large area you cant really have a small budget, other wise its a waste of time.

    Cisco Certs

the problem now is the CCNA is made so the exams are difficult quirky and tricky. Experienced network guys have trouble passing it. Only newbies with just Cisco textbook rubbish can pass it. They did this here to stop the gigantic influx of foreign students just learning the answers. But unfortunately employers want certs not experience -it bites them later tho.
