    Hard Drive failure

I would go Seagate...they are reliable and give a 5 year warranty heat is the number 1 cause of drive failure (other than sticking a magnet to it of course) so keep those drives and dvrs cool if you can (plenty of fans) and keep them clean too...i saw one dvr in a vitamin factory that covered in debris sal http://www.digitalwatchguard.com

    Geovision remote view problem

The first thing to do here is to test the web cam view locally on the dvr itself...just put the name of the dvr in IE i.e. http://dvrname. If this does not work, than it may be an issue with the dvr itself. Some other things to check: is Windows Firewall running on the dvr? Is Windows Firewall running on the machine you are trying to connect from? Are all activex set to prompt or enable in IE security settings of browser? let me know sal http://www.digitalwatchguard.com

    AMD Chipset

Don't know specifically of Pro Video Cards, but I do know that dvr cards manufacturers typically do most of their extensive testing on Intel based mboards. For this reason results on anything else may vary and are not recommended for stability reasons. http://www.digitalwatchguard.com

    GeoVision SDK .....

do you just want to change the images and look? if so, you can edit the images etc on the geo machine itself The folder structure is simple to follow and images are easy to find and replace sal http://www.digitalwatchguard.com
  18. if you must use remote desktop, definitely change the port from 3389 to something else also, it is not a bad idea to use a router with firewall that will allow you to only allow incoming connections from specific IP addresses sally v http://www.digitalwatchguard.com

best interior dome for retail situations

The ed200 http://www.digitalwatchgaurd.com/securitycameras/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=429&idproduct=1051 is affordable, and we sell replacement lenses to keep in your van. I too recommend varifocal, but if cost must stay low, this is a good option.

    Ever Focus ED300/N

Got to be honest here guys. The ed300 has improved. It is now dual voltage (ac-dc converter) and very nicely priced. We sell many of them and have a super low return rate and high satisfaction rate. Everfocus has had issues at times, but they did good with the ed300. And it has a 3 year warranty. Come to our showroom and I'll show you myself. The VPTZ 1000 is also a very popular mover for us with great responses. It only costs a hair more than the bull&^*# imports and gives a 3 year warranty. Come to think of it, in the past 4 years, we have had only 2 ed300's come back, out of over 1000. That's a fact! Sal http://www.digitalwatchguard.com

    eclipse dome

The key is to get the right products from the right manufacturer for the specific situation. Different manuf's are better for different products from a price and quality standpoint. One may focus on ptz's while another may focus on bullets or domes. This forum is great to get recommendations on cameras and dvrs from experienced dealers like Rory who can give you advise based on experience as opposed to spec sheets. We generally like to distribute for manufacturers that have a 2 if not 3 year warranties on their cams and a presence in the US. Manuf with longer warranties usually make (or OEM) better products. The presence in the US usually makes for better RMA handling. Depending on the customer and their budget, it is often nice to go with a compromise between economical and good quality solution i.e. everfocus, nuvico, lilin. If the customer plans on changing their system in 3 years (technology changes quick), why spend more? On the other hand, although Sony, Bosch, Panas, Ge, etc. may cost more initially, they will last much longer than the cheaper stuff and are recommended for higher end situations. Sometimes saving initial $$$ on a camera is not worth the cost in RMA time, and reinstallation over time. Sal http://www.digitalwatchguard.com

    KT&C Camera recommendations

They make some quality products for the money. We have a few installers who swear by their bullets. They got their name in their mini cameras, but now have a rounded out product line. I personally like them better than Speco and think their closer to being a real manufacturer. My biggest gripe with them was their marketing (web site, etc), but seems like they are finally giving all the specs on their products.
