Is this through a web browser or DVR software? By the looks of the error message you are connecting to the DVR but just no Video? Are you trying to connect to the Private IP address or the Public IP address? The first step is to connect to it locally either with a crossover network cable directly to the DVR or through a switch. Once it is working locally you can work on forwarding ports and getting dyndns working. And if you are connecting through the public IP/dyndns address but just no video you may not have all the ports you need forwarded...

I've been using it a few days. It's ok. I like the "create application shortcut" and chrome seems to handle .pdf's and some links better then Firefox 3. At first I was surprised by the lack of buttons and menus but now I see I don't need all that stuff in my face. Kinda nice to have all the extra real estate for the actual web pages I'm trying to view.

I think you are talking about the signature attached to the bottom of your posts? I clicked this link and scrolled down the page about half way and saw a "Signature" box. http://www.cctvforum.com/profile.php?mode=editprofile There maybe some limitations like adding links and such because of your new member status. The site has had problems with spam postings in the past. Once you have 5 or 10 posts the limitations are lifted.

10 Commandments of Proper Cable Termination
C7 in CA replied to scorpion's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
Good Question. When I am recording continuous I can watch the hard drive space dwindle even while there is no motion detected by the DVR. So I hope it is recording whole new images. That's my whole point of recording continuous. I am trying to catch stuff that the DVR may not detect as motion. -
I tried the arbitration route once and got burned. Not only did the arbitrator cost me 6 grand in arbitrator fees, but in my opinion as well as my lawyers opinion he misinterpreted the law and now I have no appeal option. I know there are plenty of arbitration success stories, But use caution. In most circumstances (in California anyway...) you will have no appeal option.

the wide angle minidome's are out there if you prefer them over bullets. If you don't like the Ganz for some reason take a look at ARM. They have a 2.6-6mm mini dome for under 250.00 that has worked for me. ARM Electronics model number: C540MD2VAI They have a C620MD2VAI with the same lens if you need super high resolution but I don't know the price... They aren't my favorite camera (for no particular reason) but my local supplier has them in stock and ARM is right here in Northern California. I like that I can be standing face to face with them within a couple of hours if I ever have real problems. I have called their tech support a couple of times for pre-sale info and they have always answered the phone right away and have been helpful. Good luck!

Ah, got it. Thanks Scorpion! Alex, you can do it remotely. When you have the dwell setting on screen and highlighted click on the + or - buttons on the lower left area of the video server software. (near the sequence button) If you were trying it like me you were trying to change the default setting by clicking the enter button or toggle arrows in the lower right. (which works for changing most of the settings)

Mine is the same way. You would think if it had the setting in the menu it would be adjustable, but I haven't found a way. There may be a firmware update that addresses that issue? But if not, it is to be expected that many features will be limited or absent from budget DVR's like the 760. I spent less money on the 760 then I spent on the hard drive I put in it... The good news is the "loop out" of the DVR can be patched into a multiplexer with adjustable dwell. The bad news is the money probably could have been better spent on a higher grade DVR originally.

I don't have any answers to your legal questions, But as long as you keep that drive in tact and put away for a couple of years then anything he does with the footage could be disputed with the original. But I gotta ask... I guess I don't get what you think he is going to do with footage of your neighbors walking past your door? Is there other incriminating evidence of neighbors on the drive or are you afraid he will alter the footage? I mean unless he has "George Lucas" talent and a budget to match I can't really think of any thing to alter if they are just walking past. What did you use to record the video?

I guess she likes Florida?

Welcome to the site. And congratulations on having one of the longest user names I have seen around here!

Oh man, Good Luck Buddy. Yeah looks crazy. Glad to hear you aren't personally having the flooding we are all seeing on TV. Does this mean the drought is over?

Regarding the Air Card, You should look for something like a ZyXel 3G Mobile Broadband Security Appliance http://us.zyxel.com/web/product_family_detail.php?PC1indexflag=20040908175941&CategoryGroupNo=81AD76FF-54E8-484F-A2C5-4B2C83DFD32B That will let you use networkable devices on your aircard. I have never uploaded video through an AirCard but I access DVR's through an AirCard all the time. You might want to read your TOS for the AirCard. I know my carrier does not approve of steaming video, and I'm pretty sure they would not want me networking devices to the Air Card either. But like I said, I do use it sparingly and haven't been canceled yet...

You should try posting this question in the avermedia forum: http://www.cctvforum.com/viewforum.php?f=43 -
Yep, we use the caddy stuff all the time. I think the plywood works just fine, but my local AHJ frowns on creativity. Besides, all our equipment has to be self supporting. So we set our own ceiling wires or jack chain. http://www.erico.com/products/CADDYcfcTGrid.asp And I agree the cable alone would support 1.5 lbs. I've seen wire nuts hold up a paddle fan...

Whats the difference between the sent and out box
C7 in CA replied to dopalgangr's topic in Questions about this site
If the message is in the outbox it hasn't been read yet. You can still edit or delete the PM until the recipient "opens" the message. -
Uh, Sorry you are having problems. But you keep starting new threads even though you have good suggestions/questions/comments on some of the other threads. If people have to keep asking you for the same background info in each thread you start they probably won't bother. Most of the people answering questions on this board do cctv work for a living and volunteer their time answering questions here after hours. Unfortunately not all cctv/networking projects are suited for DIYers. You could have underlying network restrictions that could take you weeks of trial and error to figure out while someone who sees this stuff everyday could spot in a few minutes. If it were me having these issues I would take Collin up on his generous offer...

How long can RG 59 work Cat5e?
C7 in CA replied to dj29152's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Good thought. But you are limited to 328' for Ethernet over copper. -
Why are there so few polls on this site?

How long can RG 59 work Cat5e?
C7 in CA replied to dj29152's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I keep hearing 750' for RG59. Cat5 can go a long way depending on the baluns used. But then power becomes an issue at those distances. I've never heard of repeating the signal... How long are your runs, and can you power the cameras locally? -

Same issue on both DVR's? Mine does this too. Here is a link to another thread regarding this issue. http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=78400#78400 -
urgent!! doorview camera installations - help!!!
C7 in CA replied to gmask's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I've never done one, But what do you need advice on? Is this camera similar to "peep hole" cameras? How do you plan to run the cable? What is the door constructed of? -
You want solid conductors. Also best practice is to punch the ends down on jacks and use patch cables from the jacks to the devices versus crimping plugs on the ends and plugging straight into the devices. Do you know if you are running the cables through a plenum? The plenum rating is a life safety issue, So whether you need plenum rated cable or not is much more important then Cat5e vs. Cat6.
