  1. Chinese Goverment controls many of the Chinese companies (I wouldn't exclude DAHUA, for example). Should've been ok, if these devices weren't online. But most like/need them online.

And, on top of that, users like to P2P their video streams right under chinese goverment's nose. Yet, they talk about privacy and security...

True BUT the Chinese government actually owns Hikvision not just controls them.

  2.

    So, basic questions:

    1. Which camera brands allow one to set the bitrate to a really high level? Say 30Mbps (h264).

    2. Which brands are known for their picture quality, independent of bitrate? Quality lenses, good sensors, etc.

Well if you don't require 30FPS Avigilon's PRO cameras are hard to beat when it comes to image quality. Resolution options are 4K,4.5K, 5K, 6K, 7K. They use crop frame and full frame sensors with Canon EF and EF-S mount lenses. Image quality is awesome.

If you need 30FPS I would look at AXIS cameras as they don't have a bandwidth cap and you can turn the compression level to zero which will get you the bit rates you are looking for.

  3. i have used Avigilon, Genetec, Milestone and NICE (Qognify), as enterprise installations, but i rate Qognifys VMS as the best out of them all, they all have licences per camera, analytics etc they all have the same basic functions but I find the analytic setup and integration with other systems and API's all though in depth is far superior on NICE.

What type of customer do you have that is using Qognifys VMS? That is some big bucks for that solution.

I have little first hand experience, but I am sure from what I have read and your experiences, that NVR and remote viewing software collectively sucks really bad.

I have a lot of experience with many professional VMS platforms and IP cameras. There is very good software on the market you just need to figure out which platform is right for you.

  5. Avigilon's ES cameras might be a good fit as you don't need to have a server onsite for these to work.

Also Genetec has a very nice cloud camera solution where you also don't any servers on site. The Genetec solution is really nice as you don't have to manage any port forwarding or VPNs. To access all your sites you just log into a web page to view all your cameras all over the county.

  6. Hello CCTV pros

It would be so awesome if you could help me in the process of designing the hardware setup for my startup company

What I need is essentially a Camera that can record license plates(ANPR). I figured that the best solution and most affordable solution is to buy a Camera that includes ANPR software, which i can install on a windows server.

The software must be able to capture all Arabic license plates, and European, and the cars will be entering parking facilities, so no need for high speed capture.

Currently i'm looking at these solutions:

    - Dallmeier(german manufacturer)

    - ARH

    - Hikvision

    - Geovision

    - Avigilon

Both Dallmeier and Avigilon seem expensive.

Would it make sense to just buy the Avigilon ANPR software, and then a high quality bullet camera from some other manufacturer?

What would you guys recommend ?

No you would need camera if you go with there ALPR solution. Another open you can look into that works with Avigilon is Platesmart.
