    KT&C Camera recommendations

Has anyone made any further progress researching this camera? Specifically, does it have a mechanical IR cut Filter? Based on the price, I assume no; but would like to research something more affordable than the Speco CVC-7706DNV. Alternatives?

Yeah, but it's 'plosion "poof"... ok, resistant. Nevertheless, serious hardware. You have to respect that.

    Pelco DSP to standard VCR?

Other things to check: * Assuming you're in the US, make sure the camera is NTSC, rather than PAL * You've connected the correct voltage (probably 24v, rather than 12v) * The lens cap is off

Computar - lens needs work? where?

Yesterday, I received a Sanyo VCB-3384 and four lenes. At first, I couldn't focus any of the lenses to save my life. Zoomed in and out, focused, cranked up and down on the flange-back adjustment, but no joy. Then I removed the lens and poked on the top of the "flange-back" (the plastic rectangle that frames the chip). The flange-back popped into position and was adjustable after that. The flange-back appeared to have been forced all of the way to the back and was stuck. The camera was supposed to be "new" (bought it on Ebay). I suspect the previous owner put in a lens with too deep a mount and forced the flange-back all the way to the back. Just my 2-cents on one more thing to check when you encounter focusing problems.
  10. I contacted them years ago on this very topic and their response was something to the effect that they're not in "that type of business." This was before they had CCTV DVRs. Over the years, I've seen some people claiming to have hacks for TiVo. But, given the cost of the hacks and the current prices of *real* multi-channel DVRs with all of the security features, I don't see any point pursuing a TiVo hack.

I think most of the people here would recommend Extreme cameras for that purpose. There's also WizKid (a subsidiary of Extreme) that sells more affordable cameras for your type of application. http://www.extremecctv.com/products/index.cfm http://www.wizkidoptotech.com/

Yes, all that does is select which camera to set the other settings below the icon.

    $1500 - $2000 DVR

I've been through all of the setup menus several times. I'm not sure I can turn any of the cameras "off." Granted, I have a lot to learn so I could easily be overlooking something that would be obvious to someone more familiar with these systems.

Will do when I get it webbed up. Right now I'm working on the basics.

    $1500 - $2000 DVR

Thanks. I fully expect my supplier to come through. I'd just like to avoid any unnecessary hassle for both of us if it's a problem on my side with the setup. Like I said earlier, everything else about the unit is great. I've been out most of the day, but played with it again this afternoon. It may be the gee-wiz factor of a person upgrading from a VCR, but I'm amazed at the capabilities of this thing.

I'd rather not say until they've had a chance to resolve the problem. It only arrived on Friday afternoon. I'm not here to bad-mouth my supplier, only to get troubleshooting information. I'm new to this stuff and am open to the fact that I may have overlooked something in the setup.

    $1500 - $2000 DVR

Thanks. But until I understand the system better, I think I'll stick with more traditional troubleshooting methods. I only use The Hammer on Fiats and Windows-based computers. Update: To test if there's something wrong with the 'C 1' connector, I connected a camera to 'C 1' and a monitor to the channel 1 loop out ('L 1'). That works, so I assume the problem is either a setup or hardware problem.

    Scope camera

XXX, Sorry if I misunderstood what you're trying to do. I know it really sucks to be misunderstood. Please understand that the internet is full of people with "off center" objectives. However, being a person wiring the perimeter of his house with cameras, I can't claim to be a mainstream type, myself. Even if your goals are not malicious, it's possible for others to use the same information that's posted here for less peaceful purposes. I think the points made by others in this tread support that concern. For the most part, technology has advanced the quality of our lives. However, I think we've seen a lot of evidence lately that it can also be used to *degrade* the quality of our lives. That's where I'm coming from in a nutshell. Peace to you!

If you'll refrain from the threats, I'll ask one very speciific question: What are you trying to do here? I think we all understand how the "world has changed" since 9/11, so this type of question has more weight than it did before that event.
  22. C7. I received the R6 BNC connectors yesterday, but have been distracted by life and my new DVR. The connectors came with instructions (this is new ) and the short story is that the instructions say to cut 1/4 / 1/4. However, looking at the interior of the connector, that doesn't look right. The interior is more like the RCA connector. I'll get back with more specifics when I have them. Meanwhile, I plan to take advantage of this weekend.

Rory, I'm not sure about "enabled in the programming," but I've rebooted the DVR several times and placed the CD ROM that came with the unit in the drive and searched for software updates (none available). I can get the cameras to provide a good quad view with the 5-8 inputs, but the 'C 1'' input is definately dead. On the plus side, I've been playing with the features and this is a really cool unit! More to come; but, if I can get Channel 1 to kick in, I'll be a very happy camper!
