I'd agree with the idea of getting a WDR camera if you're going to be pointing the camera towards the door. If you're looking at inexpensive look at the WDR2500's which is a Pixim chipset and is WDR. You could pick it up with a lens for prolly around $230-$260 bucks I'd say. But either the above model or the Panasonic would work great for your application. Goodluck, John

I blamed them once or twice until I got into a ceiling that they were doing the suspension of the wire and I was like so I had to take a different approach and routed my cable differently and worked great. CM9760-MDA... Ouch... those are pricey , not all of my customers are wanting to drop that kinda cash. Thanks, John

You can just mount it in the ceiling to a flat surface that you are sure will not be crashing down on someones head. If you're mounting in a drop ceiling you usually mount it up there by getting a thin flat board (I've used plywood and plexiglass) then just lay it up there.. Once you're sure of were it will be going in the ceiling and won't be moving it just leave the board in that spot and lay the dvr on it. Most dvr's (with hdd) do not weigh more than 10-12lbs. It's been working but I'm sure I should look at a more "secure" option.

QFT... Running a cheap camera you're not going to want to give them access to it! You'll want to get something worth your time and definitely something worth your money! Either AXIS or I've been using Vivotek (soon to change) and have had great results out of both. On top of a hotel you say? Make sure it's weatherproof!

I don't think I would recommend using that cable. I would probably pay the extra money that is needed to upgrade to regular RG59 cable or RG59-Siamese cable. I'm unsure tho as I have never worked with the "mini" cable but I just wouldn't feel comfortable running that distance over that smaller cable.

So without the IR LED's on you're probably looking at around 500mA or 620mA at most. But you want to get a power supply that is regulated and can support 1Amp a channel (1,000mA) and uhm... plugging that many things into a wall gives your customer another reason to be unhappy with the purchase! Consider a DC-9 Channel power supply box, they are much nicer and you can get a 9Channel with 1Amp per channel or possibly a 16Channel with 500mA per channel. The cameras should be something Varifocal I think because you're not going to be to to sure of the mounting location, so that extra play room would be nice. We have a nice dome (lower lines than you're looking for I think tho) VF-AD420 1/3" Color 4-8MM Vari Focal Color Tri-Axis Dome (420TVL) 2G49 (EG) Vari Focal 3.5-8mm Dome AC/DC Switchable (470TVL) Either of those would work great and they are both vari-focal which is a huge bonus (sell more 2g49). Also they are definitely under 200 bucks!!! As far as your dvr I think you should strongly consider speaking to your customer and letting them know that with this budget you will not be getting a very good unit, or if this is for yourself then please be warned of that. I like the DVR046 (4chan) or the DVR808, we've had great success with these units and they are 120fps with motion detection and up to 750GB hdd's can be installed in them. I completely agree! I would recommend an IP camera network setup in this situation since you can pickup multiple IP cameras now with good resoloution and microphones already installed on them. Have you looked into this option yet? Thanks, John

That's the 1606A+ is it the one with the CD burner on the front or the one with the HDD? That sounds like the 163 is the one with the cd burner so we'll go with it at that type of setup. The router you're currently using, can you please give me that model or brand? I'm fairly familiar with most types of routers and it sounds like your giving the dvr and your pc the same ip therefore giving you a headache. If you want give me a call at our office (as I am fairly familiar with that model) and I'll try to help you out if you are on location. 1-888-315-1219, just simply say you need to speak to John and we'll work the bugs out. 1.) Depending on what type of bullet you get, you can get multiple units now that are rated for outdoor use and are sealed quite nicely. Which in this case you will not need an enclosure. 2.) Defiantly you can run pvc. Just the task of getting it through the pipe and through the bends is going to be the largest task you face. Other than this it's simply going to be cleaning it up and making it look nice (inconspicuous). I think I still got the 2001CIH's on sale here, tho I'm unsure. Thanks, John

Ouch... dude... that's uhm... yea... about that. Don't toss it in the garbage! Last time I found a camera that was really realy bad I found some off the wall use for it... (aka I broke something and put a camera in it).

Randy, Those cameras... Did you purchase those from us? I know that model number is a newer camera we sell and it does in fact have a 6mm lens. The 8954 is a good camera but I do not think you're going to see faces from that distance away from the camera, whichever sales rep you spoke to should have considered maybe a CBI8948 (12mm lens) with 150ft IR distance or CBIV8948H-49 (4mm-9mm) with 140ft IR distance Both of those would have been a better consideration for what it sounds like you're doing but PLEASE keep in mind that the higher up in lens mm range you get the more narrow of a view you get. A great example is linked here http://tinyurl.com/22gutw then click on the file that says Lens Chart with Viewing Angles.pdf and it will give you a good idea of your field of view at different lens sizes and distances. At your distance I would have said a 12mm lens would be nice to start with but like the above members stated what you're looking for in my opinion will not be achievable on a 6mm lens unless you move the camera closer. That sounds good also, I was trying to go with a Non-IR type camera for the application because I was under the assumption that he was going to use porch lighting to aid the camera in low light situations.
