  1. I finally got the approval for an IP sytem installation. The final questions he needs answered are:

If he has the Geo 16-NVR with 8 Geovision Megapixel cameras and 6 axis IP megapixels into it will he be able to view all cameras in 30FPS and change the recording down to say 2-3FPS? Is 8 of these Geovision 1.3MP cameras going to be to much for this system? I haven't had the chance to play with any megapixel cameras so I need any input you can give me.

I sent an email to Geovision a couple days back but maybe Andy here can help.

  2. Thanks wireguys. Yeah I was informed they have some pretty good stuff. I've gotten a lot of calls for strictly IP systems. Im new to the IP cams but they're pretty helpful if used in the right situation. Its a wierd feeling to have my IT guy telling me how things should be done:)

I've also heard the Geo NVR is decent.

  3. Is there any good sites for showing how to set up IP camera systems. As far as different options on wiring, equipment to use and or diagrams?

Also I have a customer (from a refferal off a DVR system) that wants an IP only camera system. He has an office inside a big almond facility where he needs 12 cameras spread out around the perimiter. How would and IP solution be beneficial if the cameras are 500ft from the Internet connection? would I not have to run wire there anyways? And would the main benefit be that I would be able to use higher resoltion cameras? He has a budget of approx $12-17K depending on the system we choose. Any help or links to info would be appreciated.

And yes I have already explained to him we have not ventured into IP but he insited we handle his system installation for him. I just want to make sure he gets the right system now that IP options are becoming more popular.

  4. Seen it before. It is from a bad connection on one of the camera wires. Unplug one camera at a time untill you find the wire causing it. We have had it on several different jobs when they resuse old wiring and connectors. Hope this helps

  5. I've been using the same products they sell (for about 3 years) but through a different vendor. I have just made contact with the manager there and the pricing is very competetive. The mini PTZ is one of the best deals ive seen for the price period. Let me know if you've dealt with them yet. Thanks

  6. Same thing here. I actually complained about it to you Rory about 6 months ago and its still the same. I havent changed cameras but from the older software to the new is a huge difference in live quality. Even into a CRT its not all that. The biggest problem I have is that the default settings seem to be off. And for the life of me I cant stop the colors from pulsating on the screen. The pictures used to clear and crsip but I haven't got a nice picture in a while. Playback is good but other units have both live and playback units with the same or above quality. I am now looking into other options. That control center software is what keeps me buying the Geo's for now.

  7. How does the live viewing compare to geovisions new cards? Iv'e been pretty unimpressed with Geovisions VGA display output latley and have been looking for a system with better live viewing. Especially when you go to one picture , full screen.

  8. I ordered Geovison video server. I am going to get the two cameras (analog cameras) that are on the one side of the school (without the recorder) onto the network and link them into the DVR. From the SPecs nd what i've been told this should work and work well. If not we'll go the fiber route. For those of you who own a CCTV business you know how it is when you have no choice but to make it work. Thanks for all the feedback and VST Man thanks for the link. Will defenitly try it if this don't work. Thanks

  9. We're doing a job for a elementry school and a jr high that are acrosse the street from each other. 5 years ago they ran fiber from one school to the other for all their computers and data to get from one school to the other. We have installed a PTZ and cameras on both buildings and have located the DVR at the elementry next to all their servers. We originally though it was CAT5 joining the two schools together but now that its Fiber i am trying to set up a solution for them. I have never worked with Fiber so any help would be appeciated.

From what i see it looks like switchers at each end of the schools running CAT5 out to all the classrooms. What information do i need to gather to fgure out how to get PTZ video and control from one school to the school across the street? They said they had open switches for fiber to go across the street but i just want to gather all necessary info before I talk to them on tues. Thanks

  10. Anyone out there using there phone or handheld device for geovision remotely? If so what is the ultimate phone/device to use? Price is not an issue. Also i woud like to stay with Cingular but if there is a hands down favorite from another company I'm all for it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Sorry if this has been posted before.

  11. Installed a 16 channel GV-1240 about a year and a half ago. I hooked up 11 cameras and have been able to view all 11 over webcam flawlessly this whole time. Now when i check through webcam or Livevue only 6 cameras come up. All the others say STOP. I can pull up cams individually with no problem but not all 11. Nothings changed so just trying to see if anyone has run into something similar. I have tryed on 5 different computers to view this system remotley and each one only allows me to pull up six cam. Any suggestions would be appretiated.

    Thanks

  12. Also what I have noticed i've that the onyl time I get a decent live display with the 1240 system is when I use an older monitor. Prefferably a CRT monitor. I have 20" brand new Sony LCD and the live images are crap. I plug in a five year old DELL flat panel and it looks a hundred times better. Can't figure it out?

It sucks when i go out on a bid to upgrade a potential customers GV-600 system because they want more FPS only to let them know that it might not be as clear as they have it now.

Whats the technical explaination why they can't get thier live display up to par with even some of the most basic PC based recorders. Even the recorers from 3-4 years ago held a great live display picture into any VGA connection. (to bad they crashed all the time)

  13. Put in a geo system a couple weks ago. The owner is now asking me if there is any kind of device that he could place out front of his building that would sound a loud alarm if people came on his property. (he actually wanted one that made the sound of gunfire but thats a little overboard) It would need to be something that would only go off when people crossed a certain point on the property. i know they have these things for cars when you get to close to them so i thought i would imagine the same thing for building security. The reason for this is that he is having a lot of expensive statues stolen in the front area. He wants to scare the crap out of the would-be thieves. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

  14. don't blame you at all. I've had good luck with pelco on ebay. (maybe because I don't buy from them unles they have a 99.5% rating or higher)

Only get the spectra cameras from pelco. All there stationary cameras are prety much crap. i might be able to get someting for you from a guy i've been dealing with there for 3 years. Not one problem and I've spent alot of K's with him. will let you know.
