I need accesaa to the dealer forum

Note that by policy, they won't give access until you post 25 posts and have been around for a month. This is what Herm told me about 2 weeks ago. -WC-
  2. So, this is sort of a continuation of my port forwarding post from last week. Background: Systems are installed in stores that have networks installed by whomever installed the POS systems, so they are protective about making all network changes themselves. I had them set port forwarding to the Geo DVR, ports 80, 3550, 4550, 5550, & 3389. 3389 has always worked. No joy on any remote Geo access. I think it boils down to the ISP blocking port 80. So I changed the web port in Geo to 8888. Worked great to start with. When I browse to http://IP:8888, I get the active x download boxes, it installs - even gets to the point of asking for login. That's when it goes bad. For about 30 seconds, the login hangs - eventually failing with a failed to connect' error. To confirm the obvious, this username/pass works great in connecting remotely from computers on the local network. Any guesses? This is just a Geovision 8 system, no audio. Thanks! -WC-

    Need System

That system looks like junk. The cams are crappy 1/4 cams. I think you need a better dog, not a dvr. If they are ignoring the dog while tunneling into your house! -WC-
  4. Which card has a video out? What I have done to have dual output is to have a dual output video card ($50-60 FX5200 card). Clean, simple, and takes all the video processing away from the processor vs having onboard video do it. -WC-

    Geo Version 7.2 out soon

Thanks for the info. What's the word as to the cause of this version update so quickly? I would have thought it would have been implemented with version 7.0. I have to say that one of my Geo card vendors was confused by the changeover. They implemented the new 7.0 cards into their existing stock of 6.x cards - no sku difference between the two. I had to request that they visually confirm that the device was v7 before shipping to me. -wc-
  6. I totally respect what you have to say, but note that I think, atleast in this division of Charter, that they are truly blocking port 80 from the upload side of the modem. After all I put into getting port 80 to work, 5 minutes after changing it to port 8888 in the router's port forwarding list and in the Geovision software, remote access worked. I called 3 times to Charter, in my area it appears they are using this port blocking as an opportunity to upsell a static ip (at $15/mo). Static IP accounts have no ports blocked. -WC-
  7. yeah, that's my thought. I am wondering if they are on one of those cheaper XX download, 128k upload. I will go over there this afternoon and do a bandwidth test. As for the transfer from the POS, I don't think the transfer overhead for that system would be too big, better bet is that they have small upload pipe. I think increasing upload speeds will be no problem once he sees that he's only getting 4fps overall remote vs the 120fps he has local. Thanks again guys. -WC-
  8. odd, I have it working, but it's so incredibly slow that it shows only 4 of the 8 cameras, low frame rate. I wonder if I was trying to connect to it and the webcam software was timing out due to the slow upload speeds. 4 cams, getting about a frame a second each. Never thought to check the upload speeds available from the store. Guessing it's way low. -WC-
  9. PORT STATE SERVICE VERSION 80/tcp filtered http 3550/tcp open unknown 3551/tcp closed unknown 4550/tcp open unknown 8888/tcp open unknown I am scratching my head here. It's so close. I'll PM you the IP, please try it from your end and tell me what you see, k? Thanks, -WC-
  10. Radiant systems is the POS, it's a large chain of restaurants. So I just ran an nmap on the IP, seems that 'something' is blocking the traffic, whether it be the ISP or router. Here are the allowed ports as seen by nmap: 3389/tcp open microsoft-rdp Microsoft Terminal Service 5550/tcp open sdadmind? 5631/tcp open pcanywheredata? 5800/tcp open vnc-http TightVNC 5900/tcp open vnc VNC (protocol 3.3) 8080/tcp filtered http-proxy 8888/tcp open sun-answerbook? 1 service unrecognized despite returning data. If you know the service/version, please submit the following fingerprint at http://www.insecure.org/cgi-bin/servi cefp-submit.cgi : SF-Port8888-TCP:V=3.81%D=6/9%Time=42A8710F%P=i686-pc-windows-windows%r(Get SF:Request,2BC,"HTTP/1\.0\x20200\x20OK\r\nServer:\x20GeoHttpServer\r\nDate SF::\x20Thu,\x2009\x20Jun\x202005\x2016:37:19\x20GMT\r\nContent-type:\x20t. I am going to run a deeper scan. brb. -WC-
  11. I confirmed with the ISP tech support (Charter cable modem), that their dynamic ip cablemodem users are prohibited from operating various servers on those cheaper accounts. They block the common http, ftp, mail server ports. They then tried to upsell to me the static ip plan, which has no ports blocked. I did verify with the network management group that the ports are set to route all the above mentioned ports to the proper internal ip. Rory, I could take the hard approach as you mentioned, but this POS system is incredibly important to this end user and I believe he would not agree to forcing the management team give us access. -WC-
  12. Customer wants to reasonably catch what happens outside the store, but doesn't need to have it so clear as to catch license plate info in detail. Pretty much just to watch and record what happens to be able to show police if there is any problem. My cam vendor suggested a color vandal proof dome (accudome a200ir model), but figured for that price I might do better quality and use with a day/night infrared cam that looks almost like a police radar gun. A bullet might work well too. Or do you guys suggest a box cam in one of those fugly housing boxes? -WC-
  13. G22, my last build was almost exact as yours, but it was a GV-800-16 and I had a P4-3.0 with 1GB at 800fsb. No problems at all. You did install the chipset drivers for the motherboard on install, right? I've found skipping that step will make for much worse performance than should be expected. Simyf, do you get other video problems when doing other things, like moving/dragging/dropping other windows around or opening folders? Maybe you guys might want to swap out memory, just guessing that maybe bad ram might give you these results. Or maybe overheating? I suppose it would start off good performance and then degrade to crappy as it overheated more and more. -WC-

    general and technical DVR information

Rory posted this one up last week. Treasure trove of info: http://www.fmsystems-inc.com/articles.htm -WC-
  15. I have a customer that wants to, partly for price, partly for simplicity - have one Geovision 16 server manage cameras spanning 4 sites. So, the server would be at one site, the local cameras would hook up to that server locally - but they have 3 other stores to cover. Any 'remote' type cams available/compatible? He wants to be able to remotely view all cams together, and also feels that a system per store would be wasteful. He is aware that even with decent broadband connection in each store, framerate will suffer. What do you think? -WC-

1 Geovision server, spanning 4 remote sites possible?

Same metro area, all within about 25 miles from center. I'll check out Iview, I didn't know there was a multisite option, might do the trick! -WC- Scott: You're right, forgot about the measly upload speeds included with those packages.

    Ptz for geo

Yeah, nothing in that writeup states any weather resistance at all - or am I missing something? ACD-1500 is nice PTZ, but out of your budget. Probably closest thing to it though. -WC-
  18. If you have a 120 fps 8 cam card, is it possible to throttle down or up certain cam's fps rating? Ex: Make Cams 1,2,3,4 set down to 7.5fps, leave cams 5,6 at 15fps, make cams 7,8 30fps? Thanks- -WC- PS: Is there a Geovision only type forum out there for these type specific questions?

    Pro Video Bullet needed fast

I thought you were the biggest anti-dome guy around here! -WC-

1 Geovision server, spanning 4 remote sites possible?

Talked to the end user tonite, he's downgraded the request to 8 cams total, 3 in main store, 2 stores get 2, and one store gets 1. His broadband connection in each store is either DSL 1.5 down or cablemodem, 768k-2M down. -WC-
  21. I already PMd Herm, he said no dealer forum until Larry returns & approves, and as soon as I am here at month minimum. It was Graybar that I talked to. I think it was the gold RG59 price, maybe. -WC- PS: thanks, I'll try those Chitown places.

    Donglin Along...

One of my card vendors said I would have to send them the cards to match them up with a dongle, the other said that it would have to match it to serial number. I can believe that I was lied to about it all, given that it would be such a pain in the a$$ to dongle an upgrade like that. Oh well. Thanks for the honest info. -WC-
  23. Great, thanks all. With your info, I tested it out on another PC on the local network and the webcam worked great. The router isn't letting the traffic through, and it's controlled by an external vendor to the sites I installed the DVR systems, so I am at their mercy to get it resolved. I can remote desktop (3389) to them anyways, so they have it partly right. Thanks again, -WC-
  24. oh wow, you need all those ports to be able to view remote viewing of webcam server? No wonder it's failing for me. I only have 80, 3550, 4550, 5550! I can do remote desktop (3389), but can't webcam it, hangs and times out. Thanks! -WC-
  25. I just had a thread about a professional customer wanting a nice quality, but nice priced dome cam. It's here: http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=2166&highlight= But given Rory's response about a dome will never have as good a pic of a box camera - what box's would you suggest in the same environment? I am looking at some of the boxes that Intellicam sells, I am not sure what ones would be decent performers. Is it generally accepted that all box cams are atleast good, especially compared to domes? Or is it another case where some boxed cams are good and some are crap? Any advice on what boxes to avoid, would be appreciated. I am thinking of getting one for my end user, implementing it on a low priority cam and showing him the quality difference. Thanks again CCTVforum, you are very helpful, -WC-
