Quieting down Speco 8TN

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for suggestions on how to best quiet down a Speco 8TN DVR. Has anyone tackled this problem? The DVR sits in my clients office and it's too loud.

Not much you can do except turn on a radio, as it must be very quiet in this office if it bother him that much.

It needs a lot of air, and therefore that is where your sound is coming from.

It could be that it is an older unit, and the bearing on the fan are creating noise. If this was the case then you could buy a fan, and swap it out.

You can swap out a fan on a new DVR, but call your tech support about the warranty. You do not want to void a warranty!

Scorpion,

Thanks for the reply.

It is a new unit. It's not bearing noise. Have you heard one of these units run? You would think that it would be possible to use a quieter fan. Most new computers nowadays are a lot quieter. Why can't a DVR be quiet also?

Cheap DVRs will use cheap fans, same with Cheap PCs.

You can swap the fans out for better fans but have to get the same size.

Do you know what size fans are installed in it?

Fans are not the problem, it's the air-flow which makes the noise, while the metal case acts as a sounding board. You can do some modifications to reduce the noise, but it'll still be quite noisy.

Most makers doesn't concern noise when designing the DVR.

But ofcourse, you can get fans with less airflow.

Also, you can still get fans with the same airflow as other fans that can be quieter - what does one want to spend?
