Question/Recommendations for a sports bar.

Recommended Posts

Long time lurker I have used this board for info previously but now I have a job that requires I provide some information.

I have a client for which I do a lot of data/cabling work for. They recently opened a sports bar and asked if I would put in a cctv system for them. I had suggested that they go to company that does this on a daily basis but they refused so I am in the process of designing the system. I have done a couple of small cctv/systems for friends at their home/business and I have done alot of structured wiring/home automation so I am not completely helpless.

I am looking at building a Geovision PC to connect to 7-8 cameras. The reason I decided on the geovision was they use a Micros POS system and they are the only company that I know of that integrates with that equipment. The bar is approximately 20Wx100L and the whole front is windows other than than that there are no other outside light sources. At night the light is dimmed about 1/5 but its not dark because they have 15 large flat screens on all the time playing either ESPN or sports related DVD's. At night I can easily see people faces from 20ft away. I was wondering if there was a color dome cam they would provide a good picture in color during business hours day/night yet when they close the place down then cutover to say B/W as then the TV's will be off and there is very little lighting on (exit signs, street lights from outside and maybe one light in the middle.) I am hoping for recomendation for a camera thats no more than 250. Thanks in advance!

stick with b&w if you can.cheaper and will work best. problem is that color bleeds & blurrs under low light.........unless you buy expensive camera's, and even then you have to know which one to buy or you get ripped off.

Geo & POS? Almost any DVR will do POS...at a basic text over video. If you are integrating a POS system with hopes of tracking sales, creating data bases, ect. you'll need abetter POS integration like GEO. Video INsight also does POS, along with Avermedia....BUT, build your DVR backwards...starting at the POS system first. Make sure it integrates to the expectations of your client or you'll be in a mess.

I use SIMPLE text overlay onto video POS. Keeps track of everything important but I don't like to integrate data bases and deeper POS integration becasue it is in my opinion harder to use for the client. And if you find a decent POS you'll ay mooch-O monies for it.

camera's for the bar.....try to get armor dome B&W that you can put down into the face level of the customers..spray them black...not all of them, just a few at the doors and high security areas. The first thing you'll need when something happens is a facial and a camera on the ceiling won't get that good of a pic....get them lower.

I installed a Aver system in a sports bar............8 camera's and they want more. No POS yet.......I also used a Audio Authority Video Matrix system t control the 18 HDTV's they have...neat system. ...all TV's are connected via cat5 and hold a 1080i signal........and can be switched to any source (6 sat receivers) at any given time....one or all.via the matrix. cools stuff. beats the composite signal cable pulls......works out to 1000ft.

They no longer carry this camera in stock, but this worked great for pool tables, dart boards, seating area ect. This is a great way to mix up a budget so that you can afford more expensive cameras elsewhere!

Use the most expensive camera that you can afford for the front door, back door, and the register. ATM machine if they have one also.

Use the AVSsys cam where you may need the IR for dark, or after close.

Order both PIR in advance to see which works better for you environment. The basic one works pretty good as long as you have black lights, rope lights ect.

If there is an attic space then you can take the camera lead, and disconnect it from the board inside of the PIR, and then you can take this "pigtail" up in to the attic, and press the wire through a small hole in to the area below where the pigtail can go in to the back of the PIR, and your connections can be made in the attic instead. The pigtail is about 6 to 8 inches long.

I cut out a center divider inside the PIR, and I put the siamese wire inside of the PIR, and then I make my video, and power connections on the inside of the case, and I spray paint the whole thing black prior to the installation if it is for true covert in a dark club/bar.

I started using this camera instead lately

Manual for the Samsung. I use these outdoors, and I use them indoors in very dark places such as Gentleman's Clubs ect.

I love this board! Thanks for the tips.

Unfortunately they want color hence the reason I asked for color cams. They currently dont want the Text overlays but they want to be able to add it later. Since their registers are Micros(they use a propreitary interface on the recipt printer/poles...) the only DVR that I know of that integrates with those systems is the Geovision. I had looked into Video Insight before when I was approached by another place but I havent looked at them recently.

I actually installed an AVatrix system in someones house. It was nice to use CAT5 for everything even though we still ran RG6. This bar already had component cables ran to all the locations(from previous owner) so I ended up installing 2 Autopatch's 1YDM. I've used them in alot of installs and they've always been rock solid.
