Email problem with AVC760

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I have recently bought an Avtech 760 DVR, which I have setup with three cameras for testing. I have configured some motion detection alerts, configured to email me.

The problem is that, no matter which camera triggers the motion alert, the device always emails me the image from camera 1. The images in the emails have the correct name (Motion_1_.jpg or Motion_2_.jpg), but the images themselves are wrong.

Does anyone know a way to sort this out? I assume that I could manually set the DVR to the 4-camera view, but as this would reduce the resolution to an unacceptably low level (it's already much reduced from the frame size), I want to avoid this.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Daern

I am not familiar with this problem. I am wondering if a hardware reset may clear this problem up?

Thanks for the reply. I can give that a go.

I assume that it *should* send the image for the correct camera and that this isn't some limitation of the unit?

I am not really sure. It could be that it's head is just a little "stuffy", and the reset will clear it up.

I will assume that you have everything set up as you are triggering the other cameras.

It could be the one millionth one off the factory line, and that is the one with an issue.

It is possible that the chip responcible may be creating the error as it is not multiplexing correctly.

Hopefully the reset will fix it, other then that I have no clues.

The next step would be a can of freeze spray, and the hot air gun to see what it does.

After that it is the heavy mallet pounding to see what it does after that!

Is it still under warranty?

Can you send it back for a replacement?

Daern:

I too own an Avtech 760 DVR and am trying to get it to email jpeg images to my email account.

The email works fine, however, I don't get any pictures in the emails - just a .htm file when opened brings me to a login screen where I can view the captured video.

Would you mind sharing your settings with me?

Everything else works fine on my machine... maybe I can help you with your issue once I configure my DVR correctly.

Thanks!

Is it possible that your email provider is filtering out the attachment? Sometimes they

do that since attachments can contain viruses. I would try a different email account

or borrow a friend's to see whether that could be the issue.

No, I do not think that is the case... since I get the same type of login screen when I send the data via FTP.

All I currently see in the emails I get is a yellow screen with the words Trigger occur or something similar.

I have tried so many different settings to no avail.

The problem is that, no matter which camera triggers the motion alert, the device always emails me the image from camera 1. The images in the emails have the correct name (Motion_1_.jpg or Motion_2_.jpg), but the images themselves are wrong.

I played with the ftp option last night which is probably similar to the

email, and think I may know what's going on, provided the AVC760 and

AVC761 are roughly similar.

My ftp images are of all four cameras just like it appears on the screen.

Actually, I think that's actually telling us the answer. I believe you just

get sent what the monitor view is currently showing. So, if you have

it set to view camera one, any motion trip will send camera one,

not because camera one has anything to do with the motion detection,

but because you've selected it for viewing.

My thought last night was that I do remember some 'sequence' option

that cycles through the cameras one by one. If you configured it to

send a lot of images and set the motion detection window just right,

you might be able to get it to send a few snaps of each camera

(full view) each time the motion detection tripped.

I'm not sure there's any way that you can have the focus (monitor view)

automatically changed to the motion detection source, but that's

what you'd want. I'll look over the manual again tonight.

It might be that the sequence option actual does what you want.

If you were insane, you could rig up some logic to detect an alarm using

the output on the back and then send IR commands to the unit to change

screens. (You could use a PDA or ocelot or similar.) The problem there

is that you'd first have to unlock the DVR, switch screens, and then

relock it, and that's real cludgy.

Did you ever manage to get this problem sorted?

I also have an AVC760 and am having exactly the same problem: i.e. irrespective of the channel that triggered the event, the box only ever emails the image off the screen *not* the image that triggered the event.

I believe that I might have a solution for this problem.

I will be back in my home town by Wed.

PM me your email address.

How much would it be worth to you to get the update?

I'm still seeing that problem with my AVC761. Can you share your fix

with the forum? Does it involve a new firmware download?

Please advise.

The fix is only for the Video Viewer Version which is the A series that uses the SATA HD.

I have not heard back from the BETA testers, so I do not know much.

Did Avtech say they weren't going to fix the AVC761(IDE) firmware,

or is it just that no one has asked them? It doesn't appear consumers

can ask them directly.

My "old" model is barely more than a year old, so it surprises me that

they refuse to support it, when presumably it's just a firmware fix. It

doesn't give me much motivation to buy another one of their products.

There should be no problems with your version.

Yours is not a hardware problem. The SATA versions are hardware problems.

I do not know what the solution for you is.

I am wondering if your ISP has moved away from the original port, and they are now using a different port for this.

Have you checked with them to see if there has been a change?

You had working before. This rules out firmware issues. You should be able to reset the setting to make it work. This is where I am thinking it is your ISP that has created all of the fuss!

Not sure who your last response was directed to, scorpian. I never had the DVR working

as I wanted. I use only the ftp, not the email, but I believe the issue is the same viz-a-viz

"switch to alarm channel". The DVR is supposed to switch to the channel causing the

motion alert, but instead it sends the currently selected camera. I still get an image

so it's not an ftp problem.

My complaint about AvTech support ist that my DVR is fairly new so I'd hoped they

would provide a firmware update to fix this problem.
