DVR- Internet access - old story, old problems but still....

Dear guys,

 

I know that it was a lot of topics regarding the issue above and I tried many solution from CCTV forum but I still have problems

 

OK, I set up my router with isp ip, which is 172.......,

I use my internal ip for DVR which is

192.168.1.5, static ip,

255.255.255.0

172.... is DNS from the isp on the DVR, it came automaticly.

 

I have router TP Link W542G which I set up virtual servers (port forwarding) according to the manual. I opened 3 types of port and one of them is IE 80.

 

When I am inside my network I can access DVR with local IP and also I can access it if I put in 172..... ip from the ISP.

 

Ok, it gets interesting/complicated for me now.

 

I go to ipchicken and my address is 79......I guess it is outside IP for the ISP.

 

Today I tried to access it from outside my network and there was no luck.

I type 70....ip in IE or 172...ip and nothing

Do I need some kind of application to run it, like video server e or......or did I miss something?

I am really confused as to why you are having problems.

 

OK! You, and me both.

 

Using the IP chicken this is the number that you will be using for your outside remote access IP address.

 

What port number did you say that you were using on your DVR?

 

Lets try an experiment.

 

Lets assume that your ip chicken says 71.187.250.136

 

put this in to your browser with a colon, and the port number of your DVR

 

71.187.250.136:80

 

Does this work?

 

If the number by itself does not work, and adding the port number does not work then the next step is to use the remote software.

 

If those options do not work then we will have to assume there is a router setup issue.

 

The DVR outputs on the lan so this passes the troubleshooting test.

 

I did not understand why you have 3 ports open on your router?

I tried 71.187.250.136:80 and nothing happens. I am also using port 80 on the DVR.

Plus I have an option DDNS and PPOE on the DVR.

 

In the manual for DVR it said that I need to open 3 ports. I will write later more details since I am not at home right now.

 

Is it possible that ISP is not allowing this?

 

Since even in 172....(ISP LAN) it works, only from ISP -INTERNET it doesn\'t?

If it works internally, and not externally then there is an issue with the router.

 

It may be that the DVR that you are using requires the software.

 

You never mentioned if you could ping the address remotely, or not.

 

You may be comunicating with the WAN address (IPCHICKEN), but not syncing up with the DVR.

 

When you said that you might need Video Server E then I just assumed that you had an AVTech DVR.

 

Since you need three ports open then this is not an AVTech DVR.

 

Is this a PC based DVR, or is this a stand alone DVR?

 

Yes it is possible that you are having issues with port 80. We always recommend that you change port 80 to a different number.

 

I am wondering if you have a firewall at work that is preventing you from seeing your DVR at home?

I have a problem and I hope you guys have some advice.

 

I bought DVR PCI card 4 channels for home use. Of course it is made in China and it wasn't cheap, around 100$, ok it wasn't very expensive but I received QX2006 software with it and that software is really bad or I am not using it properly?

 

I was checking also on net and tried LuxRiot as well but it can not detect the camera. I know when you buy a card there is limited software that you can use with it but do you know any other software that I could use? Or how to fix QX2006.

Also on the card there is some details PLX TECNHOLOGY PCI 6140-AA33PC0

It makes sense that work network is blocking it but I tried to use netproxy to bypass it but also nothing.

 

My standalone DVR is really third party one, so it is not well known brand but quite efficient for this purpose. I received the software but only for viewing video not remote access but I downloaded video server and couldn\'t manage to log in even internally.

 

I tried to ping the address and I receive a reply. This is one 72......external ISP one.

 

I tried to change the port on the DVR from 80 to 75 and then I am not able to se it internally but again I wasn\'t aware of option of putting ip +port number, so I will check again.

If you change the port from 80 to 75 then you will need to change the the settings in the router for port forwarding.

 

I am also confused as I thought you were at work, and the DVR was at your residence.

 

I was curious to how you changed your port number. You must live close by?

 

Also:

 

Video Server E, or Video Viewer is only for AVTech DVRs.

Hi, I am now at my house. I did change the port also yesterday when I was trying to make it work and nothing. I am back to my office now.

 

 

I will try again now when I am here...because I do not think that I changed the port on router yesterday...it was late night/early morning...

 

How do I test it from here, within LAN?

Ok I tested it....

 

I changed the port no to 75 on the DVR also on the router...

 

Then I managed to see it in my LAN with ip + port, but I couldn't see it when I put in 72....... + port number...

 

Also when I go to ipchicken it gives me ip and port no?

Do i use that port no. somewhere? and do I use port triggering in the router?

The ipchicken is giving you a remote port number. I would not worry about this number.

 

I would only concentrate on the port number of your DVR.

 

Unless it was the remote port number is listed as the same as your DVR port number?

 

I do not know what you mean by the 72 number. I assume that you are talking about the 172 number that you mentioned before?

 

I do not know what the 172 number is. You said that this came from your ISP.

 

Is this a static IP that was assigned to you? You would know because you would have had to ask for it. Static IPs in our area means that you have to bump up from residential class to business class, and the rate goes up with it, and this would be your other clue.

Address 72.xxx.x.xx is ipchicken address, I guess it is ISP's outgoing address for all their internet or at least my side....

 

On my router I have static ip which is 172... (which is assigned to me by the ISP) and then my LAN is 192....

 

I know I have many crossroads to get to internet that is why I am kind of thinking this is my problem...

 

Well static ip is not really an issue here, they give it if you need it.... how nice of them......

 

This below are the ports that I had to open according to the DVR manual on my router.

 

1 port:75 ip :192.x.x.x

2 port:54000-54030 ip: 192.x.x.x

3 port:6610 ip:192.x.x.x

OK. You have a static IP address.

 

Lets stop using the IP chicken address as this may be a DHCP address.

 

OK.

Number one.

we know your DVRs works

 

Number two.

We know the video can be seen locally on the local computer on your LAN.

 

Number three

We need to resolve remote viewing.

 

I might even have the ISP ping the static IP just to make sure that they configured it correctly. You may have a bad bin for all you know?

Can you ping your static ip address from a remote location?

 

If no then HHHMMMMMM!

 

IF yes then we are remotely communicating, and we need to find what the next troubleshooting step will be.

Dear Scorpio,

I still can not see it from outside, here, from my work.

is there any software that I can use to see it remotely?

 

It looks that this is the best way for now, cause I am traveling tomorrow and would like to be able to see the cameras.

You need to go somewhere else, and try to remote log in.

 

The reason that I want you to do this is to rule out something blocking you at work.

 

If it works else where then your router is configured correctly, and your problems are work related.

 

If it does not work, then your router setup needs to be looked at.

I would forget about every number that you have on file "that works at home".

 

Just because a number works at your house does not mean it works outside.

 

You have confirmed this as you did a ping test, and the ping failed.

Have you contacted your ISP?

Have you verified that you do in fact have a Static IP Address?

If you do not have a static ip then the address that the IPCHICKEN gave you is the IP address that you need to use. It is pingable, and this may mean that the router needs to be looked at.

Hm....

 

This confuses me. I read the bottom sentence in a way that makes me believe that you are at work, and you can see video.

 

I think you are bouncing me in two places at the same time.

Thank you for sending me your IP address in the PM.

 

This IP address will not work on the internet. Your IP address is close to an IP range that has been blocked on the internet by most ISPs.

 

I thinks this is where you are having problems.

 

I do not know if your ISP is just an innocent victim, and their range has been banned by accident.

I just had similar problem

 

I could connect inside of the network but not from remote location. The problem was with the port forwarding.

 

You need to check to make sure the router IS NOT forwarding a certain range of ports to another Internal IP address. In your port forwarding configuration try to ONLY put the DVR Box IP and remove the other configurations.

 

I had another IP that had ALL of ports being forwarded to it's address hence the request was going to the wrong computer

 

Steps:

Check how many ports are being forwarded in your network configuration

Check to see what the range is of the ports being forwarded for example, 1-65000 or 200-400.

To test, try putting the DVR IP BEFORE the other forwarded ranges

 

Example Configuration What was Wrong - First IP GETS ALL PORTS

Web Server Internal IP 192.168.1.10 Port Forward Range 1-65000

DVR Service Internal IP 192.168.1.11 Port Forward Range 5600-5608[/b]

LOTS OF ISP'S DON'T LET PORT 80 WORK UNLESS WE PAY MORE PER MONTH I THINK. THERE IS SO MANY PLACES TO ENTER AND CHANGE DATA AND HAVE A BEER TOO. LOL THEN YOU ASK YOURSELF.. DID I PUT IN THE OTHER IP ADRESS I USED 3 TIMES AGO OR NOT. HA HA

Rather than making a new thread, since the topic is the same. please allow me to stick under this thread.

 

I have similar problem, but with the condition :

 

AP : TP Link WR543G, set to Router,

 

I have dynamic Ip address from ISP, then I used dyndns to get a static one.

 

Now, Locally. I could access DVR with 11.22.33.44:10

 

But, I could NOT access it from outsdide.

I have followed the step-by-step installation manual.

 

Since I am very new in setting up the network, so could u please help me with it.

Locally I could access it with : 11.22.33.44:234

 

Then with Dyndns, I picked a domain name. I submitted the Ip address from ISP gave me.

 

yesterday, I talked with my ISP. He mentioned that ALL ports going to my computer were closed. I Still couldn't figure it out, as some friends suggested that I requested a private port.
