Thomas 0 Posted April 5, 2005 I was presented with an odd problem that puts me out of my depth. Customer wants to use a PTZ that is 2000' away. A direct run of RG-59 will go through an area that will be future construction. It could be trenched deep enough to avoid that, but it's going a be a PITA. There is no direct line of sight. Fiber may not be an option, but I haven't comfirmed it yet. Any ideas? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
rory 0 Posted April 5, 2005 Normally they just use cat5 ...or fiber. With Cat5 you need an Atcive UTP TX and RX, but then you get no video loss or interference.. you get 3000' active-passive, or 1.5 miles active-active. www.nvt.com Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Randy 0 Posted April 7, 2005 Use CAT5 and UTP baluns for the video. You might want to use active baluns instead of passive to improve the video quality. If your PTZ runs on the RS485 protocol, 2000' on a twisted pair shouldn't be a problem. Check with the PTZ manufacture to see what they spec for cable.
