Software to Post Process MPEG4 (h264) for motion detection?

Recommended Posts

I'm sure it can be written, but is any aware of software free to download

that will extract motion detection events from an existing mpeg4 (h264)

video file?

No. The video files are not continuous pictures like JPEG.

You might be able to do this capturing every 5th one, or so as that would give you a "picture" rather then parts of a picture.

You would have to buy SDK for Java, and perhaps other software, and you would need a JAVA decompiler.

The rest is above my paygrade.

you need to convert the backup videos to avi or mpg files for the post processing. most dvrs should come with a video converter program.

moreover, it could turn your pc cam into a single channel dvr with motion detection, and its free.

got it working for my backup footage. it works great for my front yard analysis by applying grid mask. now i get to see who, or actually what is visiting my yard messing up the grass.

Thanks jj!
