you can somewhat precisely find out camera's lines and pixels by making a checkered board and filming it, but IMNSHO it's waste of time

Sometimes you might disassemble a camera and google for DSP or something

Just take in consideration that at times you might find useful markings inside, but in case of cheap chinese nonames there might be no useful info it all

No offense but I hate when people say "just google it" when thats the most obvious thing to do!

You see the thing is Ive already done that, and thats why Im here!

I posted on this website so that people here wont have to google it, they would be able to find the answer here in the forum.

I know your only trying to help but an answer like that just doesnt contribute anything.

So if you can contribute something to this subject please enlighten us!

Of course it is, but sometimes people need someone else to come up with the proper search terms

If you want exact data, you might need special testers.

Actually, the most important spec of the camera is its resolution.

The chips determine the resolution.

When you buy a camera, you should choose the proper CCD and its project.

It is not hard to identiy the CCD model.
