The Pelco IR illuminators use a PAR56 lamp. If I take that lamp which costs $45 and install it in a regular light fixture will I be able to use it as an IR illuminator or is there something I am missing? I am assuming that the PAR45 is not producing visible light.

Thanks

Personally id got the ExtremeCCTV IR route ..

Basically the IR Lamps are normally made up of the bulb, and the lens, as well as other things like special power boards, waterproof and rust free housings, etc. Depends on the model and the performace of it.

Short answer: no. There's a lens in the IR fixture that filters the light "down to" the IR wavelength.
