Outdoor Movement Detection

I was first thinking of using Video motion detection to record intruders in an outdoor (fenced off) area. Lots of false alarms so I thought maybe to incorporate PIRs or something like that. Any recommendations for what I need?

We use outdoor PIR units manufactured by Voltec for low budget systems & Redwall units for higher value installations.

Both units can be obtained in anti-pet form.

 

We also use a perimeter detection system that can be physically mounted on the fence to detect movement & this is much less liable to false alarms than PIRs, costs a lot more however.

Are you in the US or UK ..?

 

In the US, Optex for normal outdoor beams, id stay away from their PIRs as they still fasle alot, or dont work half the time if you have them in PET or turn their sens down. I use beams on most jobs. Redwall if you want ultimate protection. Or like what Baywatch said about the fence sensors ...

Does optex make the fence sensors too? I noticed they had some photoelectric beams on their site, is that what it is?

No, a beam is just an Invisible beam that goes from one to the next, when it is crossed, sends a signal to trigger the alarm.

They explain the different systems quite well. The buried system is almost totally undetectable.
