I noticed there is Dahua PSS for Mac

I have been lurking and am getting the bug. I tried to search for my question, but that led to more questions...

 

I like the looks, reviews, price and applications that have been discussed about the QVis Zeus. I would like to start with about 4 cameras but be able to expand-residential, single story-outside entry ways, boat and back yard (shed) then add inside to watch the cats later.

 

I see that Dahua has PSS for Mac Lion.

QUESTIONS:

(1) Would I still need a PC for the initial setup to put the system on my network?

(2) If yes, I can borrow a PC, but would I need access to one to keep it running? I.E. power goes out and I have to reboot DSL modem, router and DVR. (I have 4 Macs and really can't see getting another system)

(3) I downloaded the PSS for Mac manual and it looks like I can get complete control of the system from my Mac, but again see question 1.

The only thing that doesnt work 100% with PSS on a mac is the audio.

Otherwise you should be able to use it the same way as with Windows.

As long as you can open the port 37777 on your router using the mac then you are good to go.

 

The Mac routers I used didnt have an option for DDNS so you may have to run an update program on the Mac for that purpose, if you dont have a static IP or Domain already (for remote access).

 

You can actually set the entire DVR up using PSS now.

I even change the local port on the DVR using PSS.

As well as all the user/passwords.

 

In some cases I have someone else goto the site and plug it in, its recording out of the box, then once they give me their IP I go on and set it all up.

I have a static IP so if I have read everything correctly, I should be ok with a dahua-ish DVR and a Mac. I guess my next hurdle, besides the $$$, is picking 3-4 outside dome cameras that won't break the bank.

You do not need a pc for the pss. I use Mac's exclusively. If you need help setting it up post again. All you need is the ip, the port - default is 37777, and the user name and password.

Try this website. Type in the port number you want to check (37777) and click check. It should tell you if the port is open or closed.

Yes... When the port(s) you need is opened you should be able to see your DVR. Your ISP should be able to guide you through the process of opening ports with your specific router. Give them a call.

If the router is provided by the ISP they should be able and willing to help.

I've seen ISP's charge to upgrade people to a "business" level class just to get port 80 open.

 

That said, I really doubt that your ISP is blocking that obscure of an IP address. If they are, they MAY work with you, but I'd say it's a 50/50 shot at best.

 

That said, it can't hurt to ask.

It is all but impossible to talk someone through port forwarding unless you're on the phone with them.

indicates a person who has no clue how to do such a thing no matter how much is written. It is doubtful the ISP will be willing to walk you through it. Most times it's not their router that needs to be set up, and you also need to set up your dvr and/or ip cams, which they don't know and don't care to know. Don't rely on their help. The very best you can do is find someone in your life who's a gamer or very good with tweaking router settings, wireless network settings, and port forwarding. HAVE THEM DO IT.

Hey guys thanks for the input.. I tried to call my isp to open my port I went through 4 reps.. Then a salesman.. Then I think after I said no to "business class" they sent me to india to blow me off... I have done installs for a bunch of small business running t1 lines and for me to open a port it is as simple as call isp tech support and they release the port easy as that.. I have never been in more loops in my life... I have a friend that is a network specialist, guess I willbe taking him out for drinks in exvhange for work this wkn... I have 4 dahua ip dome cams and 4 dahua outdoor bullet cams.. Im instructed to config my ip then view my cam through a webcient which when my browser screen pops up I get a invalid website page... My router is totally screwing me... I guess im so use to analog systems.. Ip systems are a pain in the ass.. Ill try to submit some pic of the error or just the config screen after my install tomorrow.. Thanks for all the help guys!

There's your answer. Let someone who knows how to do it set it up for you. They can do it very quickly, saving you hours and maybe even getting lost in a maze of settings with no way of getting back out. It isn't really hard and I don't mean to frighten you out of learning how to do something fairly simple. But if you can farm it out to a friend to set up for you- home run. Good luck.

and most ISP tech are just reading from a manual (they dont even have a clue if they did not have the tech manual)

 

 

for ISP tech support they would need to know IP networking ..... you will be on the phone for years. he may never have even heard of a ip camera.

hi it has nothing to do with your ISP if port 3777 is open or not.

 

you will get all the info you need if you list your project.

 

how many cameras / are you using switches are you monitoring local or away with the software. are you using PSS software ?? also are you using a ddns service.

In what way do you find the audio doesn't work? I have dozens of audio cameras installed in remote locations and I can listen in on them all using PSS on my Mac. Running Lion, but Snow Leopard had the same capability as well.
