DVR wont recognize hard drive

Recommended Posts

OK Have a GVI RA-6160 DVR. Brand new came w/o HD. Bought a 500GB installed then went to see if DVR could see it. Looked under storage and nothing under HD. System came with a "tool box" CD but when I put that in DVR nothing.

What am I doing wrong?

Came "brand new" from where? Every listing I've looked at for this unit indicates it ships with a drive - Amazon specifically says, "comes standard with a 500 GB Hard Drive".

If it used IDE drives, I'd suspect you have the master/slave settings wrong between the hard drive and the optical drive, but I haven't seen a DVR that used IDE drives in years.

Ebay is where I purchased. I then bought a 500GB harddrive with nothing on it. Do I need to istall a LINKUX operating software? Maybe thats why the CD in the box would not work??!!

more like its a bad CD.

System came with a "tool box" CD but when I put that in DVR nothing.

or that is the problem of the CD. it goes into your PC not the DVR.

seller said i could return...is it time to throw in the towel and look for something else?

I purchase 4 LG 6213 dome cameras with the idea we could expand upto 16 cameras with time.

Sent the P*S back!

Now looking for a easy install not too expensive DVR. My thought is spend the $$ on good cameras and less on the DVR.

hi. you have just been down that path of a cheap DVR. pick a brand name with support (and dont use Ebay)

Installing the hard drive in one of these is actually very easy as long as you use a sata I drive, I was having the same problem until I realized the drive I was using was a sata II, I moved the jumper on the drive to be sata I compatible and it formatted it right away. Use a sata I unallocated drive (not already formatted) and it couldn't be easier. These units are cheap because the company went out of business (and no hard drives are included) not because they're bad dvr's. The features on this thing are actually quite nice, 480 fps and 16 channels of audio with an hdmi out option for less than 200 dollars is an awesome deal. Having to learn to replace the hard drive up front is a bit of a hassle, but it's something you'll have to learn eventually anyway.
