pelco spectra 3 ?

hi

i have a pelco spectra 3 ptz camera

when i set up a pattern it sometimes goes off the pattern i set

i can set it up and then after a few hours or a couple of days it will be pointing up in the air stil doing the pattern but up into space

i stripped the camera down but there is no damage to the motor plastics or the mecanism

my power supply is only 2 amp is this enough?

Yes there is a fan and heater

My camera is 24vac not 12 v

Can I run 12 v dc on it

also can the fan and heater be turned off.

 

I had it running a pattern tonight and it didn't go for an hour

It got stuck to the right and went 1 inch to the left and back again to the right over and over then after a while it went up in the air again going very slowly to the left in some kind of its own pattern

When I moved the joystick it wouldn't go up any more as it was at the end of travel

So I moved down and it did a 180 spin then it would move up again

I have set another pattern tonight just left and right stopping at

intervals without using the zoom and its running ok

It will run for constant on a scan left to right without problems

And has been doing so for months

It's only when I do a pattern with zoom in it that it losers the pattern

Just tried my mates spectra 4 in my housing and it has been running a pattern all day with no problems

So it looks like my spectra3 has dome has a problem

I had encountered a similar issue with a Nuvico PTZ where the pattern would be set without a problem and would run just fine for a while. Eventually, the PTZ would get off track and was scanning the wall to which it was mounted until I power cycled it.

 

I found that the issue was the snap at the end of the pattern; once it finished the pattern, it would jump 180* to the start of the pattern and I think it would cause it to become misaligned. Once I created a new pattern that returned to the starting point, the PTZ has been running just fine.

If the PTZ has a heater/blower, 2 amps is insufficient if the heater/blower is "on" but plenty to run the camera. 24VAC only. 12VDC will not power it.

 

If yours is an original Spectra III, the power supply could be failing. Pelco produced an "upgraded" power supply subassembly called the DD53KIT. It resolves power issues with the Spectra III systems and also replaces the problematic cooling fans with a passive cooled heat sink. See HERE
