Putting CCTV Signal in a small wifi area for owners to see

Recommended Posts

Hi

We want to put our 16 CCTV Camera system on wifi so that the owners can see the feeds from the cameras on their mobiles when within the complex.

A 300 M Radius is all we require.

The CCTV feeds are recorded in the DVR and then taken to a PC for display

So we can install all the necessary cards or external equipment etc. in the PC to facilitate this.

We do not want to use the internet as internet connections are very costly in India and have very low upload speeds

Any suggestions ?

Thanks for advising

Just connect the DVR to the network. If your DVR has mobile client, it can be used from inside or outside the network.

We do not have any existing network

I wanted your advise on how to make a wifi network for the same

Thanks for advising

Depends on how the building is laid out, but I would use two or three wireless access points to do that. The only reason I say to use that many is to ensure good signal strength at all times. Of course if the area is very open, you can reduce that figure.

Here is a sample image of a WAP layout from a long time ago.

We have 6 Apartment blocks more or less placed in L shape.

Each Block has 5 floors. and total 131 flats

From the entrance to the farthest end the distance is nearly 300 metres

The google map reference is 12.915782,77.576126

Any alternative suggestions using high powered equipments ?

Perhaps this would work. Get a wireless router that has the range you are looking for, hook the network port of the dvr to it and assign the dvr an ip. This would be your local network. Then connect your mobile to the wifi and enter the ip you set for the dvr. Im sure there would also be a port setting you would have to open on the router.

This is purely speculation though.

You will need a wireless router, and possible a switch if you need more then 4 access points, you most likely will. Set all the AP's to have the same SSID and set only your router to handle DHCP.

Just remember to put the AP's on different channels, say 1 5 and 9 so you don't have any conflicts.
