Javik 0 Posted October 18, 2013 Is it possible to have some sort of temporary storage of recorded IP network camera data at a remote site, in case a wireless bridge fails or a leased line has communications problems? Basically the idea here is that if for some reason the link to the main site with the NVR goes down or is intermittent, there could be a temporary cache that spools up the recordings until the network link is available again. The cache would then rapidly disgorge all stored data over the link to the destination (as long as the connection remains stable) until its cache is empty. The cache would not normally store or archive data, separate from the central NVR storage. I'm not looking for a $10,000+ complete integrated solution, but rather more like a $250+ drop-in box usable with existing systems, or possibly even open-source Linux, using a generic dual-LAN motherboard and a hard drive. skomo 0 Posted October 18, 2013 i've heard of high end cameras with sd cards being able to do that back to the nvr, but well outside your $250 budget...
thewireguys 3 Posted October 18, 2013 Diffidently possible but you budget will limit your options.
buellwinkle 0 Posted October 18, 2013 Mobotix has been promising this for years and hasn't delivered yet on a recording fallback to SD. As for cheap cameras, why not. For example, Hikvision and Dahua camera with SD card slots can record and playback from the camera. You can set it to record and that's independent of what your NVR software is doing to capture the video. The only issue is you would have to get to the SD card before it's overwritten. For example, say at 2AM you network fails, the camera is still recording to SD, at 9AM you notice this happened and fix it, but the camera is still recording to the SD card, overwriting as it fills up. There's a race to get to the SD card to copy the recordings off before they get overwritten. It may be possible if you have a local PC to monitor this, you can write a script to check the network, if it's down, send commands to the camera to start recording and then stop when the network comes back up. Peter_ 2 Posted October 22, 2013 New version of some Axis camera software looks to address this (from p3367-ve version 5.50.1 release): 5.50.1:F12Edge Storage Device Redundancy, ability to automatically switch recording device between SD Card and NAS if one device detects disruption. MaxIcon 0 Posted October 22, 2013 What about an independent recording system in a small box? Depending on how many cams and what resolution/fps you're looking at, you could set up a small Blue Iris or similar system in a tiny mini-ITX box that would record independently all the time. It would run a bit more than $250, but not much, if you weren't recording too many cams. Getting it to upload the content after an interruption would take a little script coding, but it's a PC, so the sky's the limit there.
