I finally pulled the trigger

Recommended Posts

Alrighty...

Just pulled the trigger on some more wonderful stuff!

Bought the 8 Port POE Managed Switch

http://wrightwoodsurveillance.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=67&products_id=314

Also Purchased 2 more Hik 3MP 4mm Bullets.

So I'll have my (4) 3mp Hik Bullets, the switch and Probably Bluiris since I can't see anything better as of right now.

I'm going to look for a battery back up for the switch, and one for my computer too.

After I get all this setup I'm going to call it good for awhile, direct my finances towards some other stuff. So Happy I finally got all this ****.

Only took a year of waiting around. Im sure some of you guys are happy I did too so I can stop asking the same questions over and over. lol

So I guess I'm buying blueiris... But before that the hikvision web broswer won't pick up any of my hard drives to use

as recording destination. When I git capture or record it sends it to a file but in the storage tab nothing shows...

any help?

Well, I got the refurbed switch but the box had a hole, not a big deal as that would be the shipping companies fault

but what does bother me is through the hole I could perfectly see the poe switch meaning it was not packaged like it should

have been. Opening it revealed that the bottom of it had absolutely zero packaging material.

I've emailed the company so we'll see what happens, I can't test the unit for a couple days

as I'm starting a 48hr shift in the morning and sleep is more important. The far port is pretty destroyed....

Worst part is I wasn't able to get the cameras that are mounted to record to my hard drive so I didn't get the delivery man putting the package on my porch because I didn't have Blueiris.

There's is packaging material, it's those inflated bags, but looks like whatever punctured the package also deflated the bags as I see those from Amazon. I think the package services including the post office are a little rougher during the holidays. You don't know how many packages I got last week that where not for me. UPS dropped 8 huge boxes at my doorstep, none for me, they were so heavy I had to help him put it back in his truck, LOL.

That's the SFP port if you are using fiber optic cable. You can only use one, the SFP port or the Ethernet Gigabit port, not both at the same time. When you look at what an SFP cable looks like, you'll see it's very long so the outside metal is just to guide it in, the actual guts of the connector may go in like 2".

You should plug the cameras in and see if it all works as it may just be cosmetic as mine is bent too. If not, I'm sure they'll take it back. You can use the switch right out of the box but if you want to take advantage of the manageability feature, the default IP is an unfortunate 192.168.1.1. I was able to connect to mine by plugging in a laptop with a fixed IP address in that subnet, I made it 192.168.1.11. Then the user/pw is admin/1234 and then you can change the IP to something more favorable in your home network. I have mine in the garage attic so it's nice being able to power a camera off and back on if it gets hung and also see the power usage for each camera.

Here's the IP setup screen -

Here's details from one port

Alright thanks.

Yeah It had material for where the ports are, but on the bottom of the unit was none. It sat in the box with nothing between em.

I'll test it once I get off work as I don't know if Ill have the time tonight/tomm without upsetting the wife. lol

Installing Xprotect go right now so when the rest of the cameras arrive it'll be recorded. Not to mention I shouldn't have waited anyway.

you'll find that it's actually very cheap should you wish to buy the Essentials version as well.

I don't work for them, just like the software

I downloaded it, registered it but still showing it as a 30day trial.

Downlloading the server side smart client as I'm trying to get it setup so I can view from my smartphone.

Did you try restarting the software after inputting the key? Seems to me that my BI registration didn't require a restart though. Maybe a typo putting it in and you'll have to do it again?

It's Xprotect go.

I registered it for the free year license and it instructs to go to the about tab

and under license type in the code sent via email but it won't allow me to type into that box.

I'm not home, won't be until sunday when I get off the 48hr shift i'm working so I can't mess with it yet...

I'm going to read/watch some guides so when I get off hopefully I'll be able to get

everything set up properly.

Must've missed something from the previous page. Either way obviously it still should show registered. Restart will hopefully fix it if it wasn't a typo. I liked Milestone after I got used to it but got along better with the motion detection in BI. My server has lots of cpu cycles to burn so that's what I've been running lately.

I just installed xprotectgo and I could not enter the code either. After pulling my hair out for a while trying to figure it out, I noticed the email I got had a license file in it and directions for what to do with it. Basically I had to save it to my computer, then go into the xprotectgo management app and under "file" at the top left, there is a "manage license offline" option -----> "import license". Navigate to where it was saved on your computer to import it. Re-started it and all was registered/licensed as it should be.

Awesome, I saw the manage offline so I'll try that when I get home.

In live video settings FULL was the only option that showed clear when I hit Ultra (For MP) it was blurry.

Not sure if you have had the same issue.

I'm so new to it all I still gotta figure out how to set up everything like the server stuff

so I can see it from other computers and our smart phones.

Lol Yeah I saw that and set it.

I also set the switch in the attic. So I have a cable run from the router into the attic to the switch, then from the switch

to the cameras, finally.

Yeah, I figured until then it should be fine. It's not so much an attic as an unfinished upstairs. it's like 8ft tall and has a window. :/

I have one of my cameras showing "Stopped" instead of "Live" like the others in my smart client and I can't figure out the issue. It looks like

the image is frozen.

One of my 2 Hik 2032 bullets drops out every now and again, and usually needs a power cycle reset to go back online, since you can't contact the IP address when this happens.

This is a good first check - ping the IP address to see if the camera's responding.

While out of town over the holidays, the pair of them went offline for a few days, one a few hours after the other, then came back on before I got home to do anything about it. The other 7 cams were all OK while this was going on.

I'm still puzzled about this.
