Install "best practices" book / guide / manual

Recommended Posts

I've been doing a 16 camera install for a large non-profit retail store; 4 analog outdoor dome cameras, 12 analog indoor dome cameras. I've installed a 16 ch power supply, and 16 ch DVR, and run Cat5e and passive baluns.

I've got about half the cameras installed and working. So far, so good.

But... I possessed no experience when starting the installation. I've been doing my level best to do things correctly, but I honestly have no idea if I'm doing them correctly.

Instead of asking dozens of questions here, is there a "best practices" book / guide / manual I could reference?

Are there courses to take? Where would I find out where/when those are held?

Thanks for any help.

BICSI is one of the certifying authorities for that type of work, you can check out their website. I would also look up structured cabling or cable installer standards, I am sure that will give you a ton of stuff to read up on. Try the same search on youtube too.

Thanks for the tips. I'm looking into certification classes now.

I just posted a new thread about a specific installation issue. Didn't want to camp on this thread, which can be closed now.

Another place to look for more information are the websites for the manufacturers and suppliers.

Also youtube can be a good source for some installation how tos.
