Newbie Need A little Help

Hello Forum,

this is my 1st post I hope someone could answer my problem.. here we go

I would like to buy a ip speed dome cam for outside use, the one a have seen as 3 leads power / bnc / 2 wires

what I would like to do is use a RJ45 cable from the bnc to put into my router or do I need a dvr or nvr to plug in the back so recored and view on my iPhone

any help would be great

take a few lead fishing weights and put them in a large tablespoon, then take a BNC cable (or RCA), then what you say..... another RJ45. Melt the lead weights in the spoon and then (*important*), while still molten, shove the BNC/RJ45/RJ45 splitter into the molten lead. Blow on it a bit to cool, and then plug in your equipment to make sure everything works as expected.

Sounds like you have 7 conductors - give it a shot and let us know how it works. I'm just getting into POE, which it sounds like you're playing with, and I don't know the rules to that yet.

Ok, just to clarify things an RJ-45 is a connector that looks like this:

 

 

The cable you are referring to is probably eitehr CAT-5, CAT-5E or CAT-6. You can read the stamped writing on the cable to determine that.

 

The easiest way to use CAT5/6 wire with an analog camera is thru a pair of baluns which have a lot of different styles to them. Some provide power and some do not, you absolutely need one that does provide power. In general they will look something like this:

That's great so would this work on any ptz I'm thinking about getting this one. As you can see the connections also the spec

So I need a video Power & Video CAT5/6 Video Balun then I can plug into a drv or nas then into my router,?

That is not a "ip speed dome cam" like you said on the first post, it is an analog camera.

 

It would work, but you would also need a DVR. You will not be connecting the camera to your router; but the camera to the DVR, and then the DVR to the router. When you watch the camera from your iPhone, you won't be connecting to the camera, but to the DVR. When you move the camera, you won't be sending commands to the camera, but to the DVR, which will then send them to the analog camera (through the RS485 interface).

thank you for getting back in touch, yes I just notice the BNC and not the RG45 connector,

are IP cam Better then Analog?

and what you someone like to recommend me iv got €185 / £150 / $252
