These are for home use (day and night).

Speco tech

CSI CVC-321WP

Waterproof B/W Bullet Camera with 10 IR LEDs and 120 Ft. Cable

http://www.specotech.com/cart/products/productDetails.asp?prodID=583

Whats your opinion on this camera (and have you actually used it)?

Application: Side of house, pointing almost straight down from peak (20'-0" above ground).

Application: Backyard angled from roof (8'-0" above ground) towards

ground seeing about 30'-0" to 40'-0" out.

CSI CVC-638/170

Ultra Wide Angle Waterproof Color Bullet Camera

http://www.specotech.com/cart/products/productDetails.asp?prodID=709

Whats your opinion on this camera (and have you actually used it)?

Application: Front porch or drive way (8'-0" above ground) seeing above

40'-0" out.

There will be standard type flood lamps near each camera.

So lighting will be good at night, but cameras should still be able to

see in low light just in case. None of the camera lens will be exposed to

direct sun light.

For the front yard I would like color cameras that are sharp out to

100'-0" so I can identify cars and persons. Maybe something

with an adjustable lens is best for this type of application?

What would you recommend for the front yard cameras?

Looking to keep each camera under $200.00, $150.00 if possible.

Thanks!

Both cameras are no good for the price. You can get those same cameras if not exact very similar and probably better for around the same price if not cheaper then speco sells them from other companies like Supercircuits, Mace, Intellicam, Swanson, Vitek and thats just to name a few. Have you had a professional spec out your application with equipment that will give you the features you want?? If not I recommend it or maybe go to Costco or HomeDepot and get what you want there for your budget.

When you say cheaper, how much are you talking and which of those would you recommend. Also where would you recommend I purchase them from or at

least browse online (good site, fair price, good products).

I already own the cameras above and think they are ok.

The 321 has a decent picture out to about 20'-0" which makes it

good for sides of the house. But not good for distance (front yard).

The 638 is a decent camera for covering front porches, etc. (small areas).

I need some camers for further viewing for a decent price.

I would prefer color, but if I can get a B&W with way better picture

resolution then I would go that route. Clarity is more important then

color for the from yard. I need to be able to identify cars and persons.

The 321 is basically what I have used for over 5 years without failure in several locations including my own, and including in the nightclub, it is much better than most other BW Bullets with similar specs (used them also). They dont short easily and they even withstood a few hurricanes.

The other one looks pretty generic though. Eclipse has pretty much the same camera for probably half the cost.

The only difference with a high res with similar lens specs is the image will be clearer, dont expect faces at any length of distance unless its a manual zoom like a PTZ, or the lens is zoomed into a set area with a small FOV, but then you lose most low lighting capabilities.

I have upgraded the BW bullets to the WizKid WZ30 BW High Res Vandal Domes, thats the kind of upgrade you may want to do, similar lens specs but higher resolution and in a vandal dome. And the cost is only a little more than the 321's.

So if I stepped up from a 420 to a 570 TV Lines Resolution camera I would

get a much cleaner picture?

For certain locations the CVC321 will do fine, but I would like something clearer

for the most used locations.

Agreed! Speco is overpriced.

What do you guys think about the "exposed wiring design" of those, and so many other bullet type cameras? When ever they have been within easy reach, I have gone with designs as shown below so the wiring is enclosed within the mounting system. I can't say I have had any situations where wiring has been tampered with.... but sometimes I take the stand as the devils advicate

we had a criminal pull a few down and short them out at the night club once ...

hence the reason we upgraded them all to Vandal Domes ..

well im still waiting on the owner to call me to put them up .. had them from before xmas, sais he's busy .. opening another night club .

Here's my take on Bullet cameras, great for locations like poles, trees, anywhere that a dome or full housing cant be installed, and at residential locations where you can get a very cheap bullet camera to do a pretty decent job for the cost. I'd never install them in a business again, and I only use the BW or Color ones ... if there isnt any light, they put some up, install IR, or go get them installed by the plumber down the road. To end, no bullet camera can match the quality of a box camera, or any decent high end Fixed Dome, but they generally blow the cheap domes away.
