Pelco PV140 rs232/rs485

Recommended Posts

Hello -

I have a situation where I'm hooking up a PC based DVR to a Fastrax PTZ camera. I need RS485 - someone suggested I get the Pelco PV140 and plug it into the serial RS232 port on the back of the Pc based DVR. There is also a 12vdc power supply with the PV140 that the instructions say I should plug in. I've been told even though the pv140 says it's a rs232 to rs422 converter, it will work with RS485. Is this true? do I need to plug in the 12vdc transformer?? Any suggestions or alternative converters would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I guess maybe this is a stupid question?? Or, is it possible that nobody knows? Or am I just confused and nobody wants to deal with me??

Any help would be appreciated, if not, thanks anyway

I'm not familiar with the Pelco PV140 , but have used 232/485 converters that plug into the com port.

The one's i have used , there was no need to hook 12v to them as they are powered through the dome.

It would be easier to reply if you gave a little more info as to the dvr type, and perhaps a link to the dome?
