Choosing a Dome Camera.

Recommended Posts

Hello ,

i am planning to buy my first IP Dome Camera, not something expensive, maybe around 250euros/300$ for home use, and i would like to ask from the people who own one, a couple of questions....

-is it true that dome cameras are more light sensitive than box or bullet ?

-if i install the camera on flat surface (like a table) and not at the ceiling, is the image going to be upside-down or is there way to flip it from the software ?

-is there any dome camera (for home use) that can have a rotation of 360 degrees ?

-is there any dome camera varifocal or with changeable lens ?

Sorry for all these questions but there are so many in the market....

Finally...i am between 2 brands, Hikvision & Dahua....any recommendations ????

Many Thanks !!!!!!!!!

A dome is not necessary more light sensitive than a box or bullet.

In general, the image sensor, lens, electronics and software all have a bearing on the overall light sensitivity of a camera.

Also consider that a dome/turrent/bullet may or not include IR leds.

The box camera usually does not include IR leds.

Separate IR illumination is always best.

Some box cameras with proper lens are great with low light.

Correct and thanks a lot for the info....

I am not so much interested about IR light, i am after for a more light sensitive sensor..I already own an analog camera from Hikvision which is light sensitive enough to catch star light and together with the sens up function you can see a lot more.....

But, i am missing the megapixel image quality....!!

Does anyone know if 0.01lux is enough sensitive to gather star light??????

How about this one? http://www.vivotek.com/ip8173h/#views:view=jplist-grid-view

Thanks

Sens up for normal CCTV use causes motion blur.

Sens up is ok for star glazing...

Vivotek cameras are great for WDR, but not for low light.

For low light, 1.3MP cameras are usually better.

Look at Axis Lightfinder, Avigilon Lightcatcher, Bosch Starlight, and HIKvision Darkfighter

They are different styles of domes include infrared domes, indoor domes, outdoor domes, vandal proof domes, and pan tilt zoom controllable domes. The smoked cover does not affect picture quality.

Smoked dome covers normally reduce light sensitivity by 1 f stop so you need more light on the subject with a smoked cover against one with a clear cover.
