Securame 0 Posted May 29, 2015 I can't think of a reason why you would want to use anything better than copper Cat6 at the moment, and in most cases you do not even need/want that. But if you don't mind the price, surely you can use Cat7. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Moreover CAT 7 has an overall shield which completely covers it as well as individual shielding of every pair is there. So, for long term wiring system it is highly recommended. Nonsense...there is no benefit to ip cameras..even cat5 is fine...being that cat6 is not that more expensive many are using it..but cat7? no way... Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
jeromephone 6 Posted May 30, 2015 cat 7 is only for very high end Ethernet installs of which there are very few. I would go with the cat 6 copper as some brands are 23 gauge which should give you a little better current carrying capacity if you are using for power. your cameras are 100/mps and the cat 6 is rated for 1000 mps so you have plenty of headroom for future expansion, or the next generation of cameras.
