Is it against the law to put fake cctv camera pointing into

Recommended Posts

If its fake its a non issue...the problem is the fake camera wont help deter the criminal activity...Get a real camera.

Indeed. If you wanna have peace of mind, go to buy a real security system which sends you email alert when any unauthorized activities being detected by your cameras.

I am just noticing these my car is parked on public road. I thought you weren't allowed a real one? That's why I am thinking fake. Thank you for your help. Or am I wrong and I can use it?

Yes use a real one ...... Just don't put signs up

I will have to disguise it then. Anyone can see it. And it shows neighbours property.

Then it's classed as covert ........ Just put camera up

Where are you located

Hamilton UK. It's not on record all the time only when motion is detected. If that makes any difference I can set it to an area I want to be notified i.e. the car but it doesn't work. It shows everything and neighbours houses.

Yeah it is very vague indeed, pity that guy never told them what happened in the end.

The rules only apply if your system is registered with the DPI

There is no problem in the uk to have a camera to view your car

Yes I know the area well

DPA is a little different in Scotland than England but it does not concern your needs

You are not breaking any laws on installing your camera

Really the police said that I am not allowed to. But I don't think they know the law, they said that I am filming without their consent. Yet your allowed to do it with your phone out in public areas.

We have systems in Ayr

You are installing a private system ..... Your right about the police not knowing and it is a mind field but you don't come under any DPA rules

I am registered with DPA with being in the industry for over 30 years

All you need to do is install that's it

Could you provide me with the act of law that covers this so I can tell them when they come to my door about it please? And it doesn't matter that it looks on to the street where neighbours houses are?

There is no act

If the camera is on your home then it is not covered

You do need DPA if your are a business corner shop or petrol station

Also which is why I said DONT put signs up ....... This will make your camera public and not private

There are 1000s of private people putting cameras up on there homes

Don't look at making your own camera complicated

Just use your camera as intended which is to watch your car that is all you need.

No point sending you DPA rules as your not registered and not needed

When you say on my home do you mean looking onto my home? As it looks onto public road and takes in neighbours front houses too. Just to be extra sure. So I don’t look like an idiot when Police chap my door, and tell me to take it down, or even worse confiscate it!

Listen am in the uk .... Fitting security for over 30 years

Also part of northwest security police group

No you don't need a DPA

No police can't ask you to remove

Yes you can put a camera on your house looking out to your car

There is no law stopping you.

Like I said don't use CCTV signs

Take a walk around your area ..(a place I know well) and see how many homes do have cameras
