Researching my first home system

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I would like to hear your expert input on a system. My wife really wants a system, so she bought a 720p Zmodo system off Amazon. I installed everything and it looks okay but the software is very clunky and many basic features do not work. Anyways it is being returned but it did prove that she enjoys having a security camera system, so it will be worth some modest investment.

Here is what we are hoping to get out of the system:

- 4 Channels

- 1080 resolution

- NVR w/ decent software and a Phone App

- 4 Outdoor POE Cameras

- Not constantly having to mess with things to get them to work

Here is what I am looking at getting:

Samsung SRN-473S

Hikvision DS-2CD3132-I

Hikvision DS-2CD2032F-I

I am planning on putting the dome outside the front door and three bullet cameras around the parameter of the house. Again any input would be greatly appreciated.

Both samung and Hikvision's are all OK. But not sure they would meet your expectation, because zmodo failed. Buy the one that you are allowed to return.

Dave costco has good deals on swann ip systems, which are usually rebranded Hikvisions. The lorex kits are Dahua, another good ip camera kit. Costco has an excellent return feature.

Thanks! I think I am going to need to go with a kit. I cannot get the Samsung NVR to connect to the cameras via ONVIF. Also I don't even see the NVR or cameras showing up on my local network. I am not a network oriented guy so I think I am going to need to go with a kit solution.
