Geovision Copyright

Recommended Posts

Ok, I see loads of Geovision copy cards on the market...what is their copyright?

Their DVR cards with GV logo on chipset?

Their DVR cards with no GV logo on chipset?

Their latest version software?

Their old version software?

Is the 'GV' in the model name copyrighted?

Is the drivers copyrighted?

If Geovision has to find anyone selling copy Geovision cards, how can they take legal action? On what grounds?

Typically the pirate cards are using Geo Software which is copyrighted.

Greetings

Do you mean that there are pirated cards that are using the Geovision Software to run on its board ?

I came across some of the customers who came back and asked about the Geovision software but then when asked them what card they are using ... they are speechless. This is going to ruin up the market for Geovision.

Regards,

Hughie

well, if your client is using Geovision fake cards, he cannot use the GV software.

Can geovision take action against your client for using the fake cards? Even though he has no software with it?

If he is using a Pirated Geo Card, it is using a hacked version of the older Geo Software, so yes. But they would be more concerned with the resellers.

Apparently there is a generic software out called Neteyes or something which is compatible with GV Software..

GeoVision Software is GeoVision software, if they are using another software program then they are not the Pirated Geo Cards. Geo is a software developer so the software is their prime concern.

That said, you can purchase the SDK from Geo to develop a custom version and name it whatever you want to work with their cards.

The Pirated cards are simply produced cheap and the Geo software is hacked to work with those cards. Their selling point is the Geo Look and Features(which the hacked versions lack most of), otherwise people can buy Anykeeper for a cheaper alternative.

Another thing worth mentioning is with the Pirated versions the quality is only 640x480 as well as generally lesser overall quality compared to the Genuine cards (different cards). Also the installer CD is totally different and you stand a 50-50 chance of ever getting the drivers working, let alone the main software.

that is very very informative...thus said, we can conclude that Geovision cannot actually do anything legally to a dealer selling the copy Geo cards with generic software....

If they are putting a sticker on it that sais GeoVision, or advertising it as GeoVison then perhaps, but im sure they are more concerned with the other ones i mentioned which are the ones generally found on the internet with their GUI plastered across the page and a Geo Sticker on the card.

as far as I can remember, when I looked at the cards, there were no stickers or any GV logos on the chipsets...they actually looked like blank cards.

If you don't like Geovision sell something else. If you are selling geo why would you want to sell anything but the genuine ariticle. Support is the name of the game and if you are planning on keeping the customer you don't want all kinds of callbacks. I think the same goes for the computer components get the best, get the reccommended and you are going to have many fewer issues.

Um, yes Geovision can do quite a bit of damage to a dealer selling fake cards.

1. It's a trademark violation. That's expensive to defend against, most lawyers don't touch that part of the law, those that do are specialists and specialists cost alot more. Even if you were to win, odds would be pretty good you would be bankrupted. From the last study I saw, the cost of defense of trademark lawsuits was in the 1 to 2 million dollar range.

2. It's against American and most countries law to sell pirated equipment. Jail terms can be in the five to ten year range for it.
