Putting my Old Security DVR to New use - Recording TV shows

Recommended Posts

I have a Q-See 4 channel DVR that I've since replaced with Chinese equipment (HikVision).

I'm going to try and adapt this old DVR to use as a recording device for my Digital Television

Anyone already done that?  Know any reason it can't work?

As far as I know I can even set the date and time to start and stop recording.....as long as the TV is on and set to the correct station of course.

Hi. First go and make a nice coffee and sit down and have another think.

A few points.

digital back to analog for dvr input?

does your tv have signal output .... TVs have never had them

how many FPS is your tv signal and what is the max of your dvr

how will you get the audio from digital to dvr and still have them sink

so your answer after your coffee should be.  ....... is we’re is the bin.

But it if you want to record on your digital tv there is a very simple way and the option is on 90% of digital TVs

if your tv remote control has a record button on it which most do now and have for past 5 years.........all you need to do is place a usb stick in one of the TVs usb slots......switch tv off and back on and it will assign stick as recorder storage ......then you just press the record button on remote to record

I looked up my TV specs......

VIDEO OUTPUT   ------    NO

That settles that.  I need a different TV.   It has no RECORD functions either

My TV is an LG ROKU TV.

Never realized there was no way to use ANY DVR with it for recording TV shows.   That seems very bizarre to me.

Ok I don’t think your coffee is strong enough.

how does your tv get its tv programmes ......if it’s digital ..... it’s digital input..... your dvr is analog only.

if say you had old analog tv equipment.

How did you connect a vcr ..... aerial would of gone to vcr instead of tv

what is is the point of trying to explain to you that you can’t

you don’t have a decoder in your dvr ......you can’t Match audio to footage (as there two different codex

but we all look forward to how you do the impossible
