D-Link DCS-70 Outdoor Housing

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Nice site.

I am looking to add some external PTZ cams to our existing system. The D-Links cameras that go in this DCS-70 Housing (http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=433&sec=0) are ideal as we use a D-Link only system. The problem is that I am in the UK and we use 230V @ 50Hz not the 110V that these housings use. Plus I would like the install to be as simple as possible, a one wire (cat5) solution would be ideal.

Has anyone used the DCS-70 or does anyone have any technical knowledge on them? My hopes are that I can splice a 12V POE into it to bypass the 110V input.

Any help appreciated.

Never used one, but looking at that page, and the specs on it,

110V AC Input, 12V DC, 2A Output

It appears to be a seperate psu, with the cam just needing 12v at 2a.

Now I have had a fair bit to drink, so not going to say if its safe to pass 2a at 12v down cat 5, but my gut feeling for 2 amps would be thats a lot of current, and without doing some sober research I would not try it.

Gut feeling says 2a would need bettter cable for power than cat 5, but could be wrong, its nearly christmas, and not going to do research
