IR-b&w or lowlight color

Recommended Posts

howdi folks...

I have a running argument..

Whats better for a small car park etc at night, to ID perps [lighting@ 5lux or so]

1/color/ IR active illumination with IR cut filter lens hi-res black n white pic at night.

or

2/Good quality Hi-res low noise and all that .001lux etc color.that does not go b&W mode -using the security lights to light up when needed

I think No2 is better because you can tell the colors of cars people etc B&W picture you cannot tho b&w with IR might give better detail

-you cant tell the police "it was a black n white pickup"....

-my own cams tests show some IR cams make you look like a vampire

and make clothes look funky

im running a test with two cams at the same time same position in motion detect mode -well see -so far the color wins

IR is for stealth thats it.

If you think you can cover a car park with one cam you are sadly mistaken.

Why not color at the entrances/exits and BW for overviews and numer plate.

I wouldn't use IR period if you can have conventional lighting.

Add more light .. if not then you need BW ... even a day night cam with cut filter cant compare to a BW only camera .. like Colin said, IR is only for Pitch dark apps.
