GE Camera takes a licking but it stopped ticking!

A good technician can repair that PC board:

1. Align the board pieces together.

2. Scrape off the insulation on the foil sections on each side of the crack.

3. Tack solder larger foil sections across the break to keep things together.

4. Solder jumpers of uninsulated wire across the remaining foils.

5. Solder jumpers across the "tacked" areas mentioned earlier.

6. Check for shorts, cold joints and missed foil bridges.

7. Clean the board with flux remover.

8. Coat one side of the cracked area of the PC board with 5-minute epoxy glue, let set then coat the other side with epoxy glue.

9. Reconnect and test all functions.

I've repaired many PC boards that way and never had a unit returned.

I can do the work no prob as you have suggested. I do not have the camera in hand.

I do not mind spending $ shipping to me and back, but for the cost I thought I could find a source or get a used one.

Don't you hate murphy's law???? LOL!

I am going to be flying out of town, and I will not be able to accomplish anything for this camera.

Thanks survtech!

unless you know how to fix it and have alot of time on your hands .. 2nd hand camera .. IMO .. get a new one.

I dont think you can just buy the board, but incase, what model is the camera? I can check with a GE contact and see what they say.

Hey Survtech!

I had a flash back from a long time ago after I saw your post. I showed up at a customer of mine one time, and started to "repair" some equipment. To pull his leg I pulled out an antique wood burner, and proceeded to "solder" some very small heat sensitive componets.

Man you should have seen the look on his face!!! Worth its weight in GOLD!

This old iron was HUGE! It must have been a good 18 inches to 2 feet!. It had a mylar handle or something, as it did not use plastic for the handle.

I wish I still had that Iron. I good have some fun with it now adays!!!

Thanks! Not a problem. I will just add flight/hotel fee to the quote for repairs. YAAAAAAA! Another paid vacation!

I need to install some camera in VEGAS!!! This would be great for recurring revenue, and maintenance!!!!!!!!

Hey UK! Can I subcontract? I want to see Big Ben!
