im quite stuck what do I need to do to get the cams working across the network without actually connecting to the dvr card.

Im based in Ireland and starting out as I learn

Video baluns are not for transmitting video across a "network". They are used to transmit video as a 75 ohm signal across unsheilded twisted pair. Some peopel think this is network as they use CAT5 or CAT6 cable. but this is still an analog signal. If your video signals are coming to a computer via an analog signal then you will need some sort of capture card to get that signal into the computer.

If what you are trying to do is get four analog siganls on your ethernet network, try an ACTi ACD-2200 four channel encoder. This would put 4 analog cameras right onto the network.

Thanks
