    Entry level DVR

You in the UK? I bought a 8 channel a few weeks ago to replace my old 4ch and so far Im pleased with it. Especially being able to view online. Now I can keep up with the happenings of my home throughout the day.

    Alarm trigger delayed?

Yep, I bet your right. It does sound like when the 10 seconds lapsed then the sensor went back it started the recording.
  3. Im using some IR motion detectors to trigger my dvr thru the alarm inputs. Set up as Normally Open. I used these on my old 4ch dvr and they worked great, but on this new one there is a 10 or 15 second delay from the time the sensor triggers till the dvr records. This is not acceptable. Is there a setting maybe in the setup Im missing. The manual that come with this thing of course is a crop over from Chinese and theres not much explanation.

    Alarm trigger delayed?

Well I changed the alarms settings to N.C. and it appears to have fixed it. Dont make sense why it would even work with it set to N.O. Go figure.

Which DVR setup do I need?

Well 16 people have read this and they probably know more than me but I did a search on Google for a eithernet to wifi and I came up with this. Linksys WET54G Wireless-G Ethernet Bridge Their around $80 and if your current router has wifi this should work. I understand not wanting to run cat5 but its cheap. I only paid $13 for 100 feet with connectors and its working great.

cams with IR leds built in

Yea the fog is a real problem. You end up recording all night long. So I ended up making some IR detectors to trigger my DVR. Now I dont record fog, spiders and moths.
  7. You should be able to find the IP address for that dvr in the setup menu or in the owners manual. Something like 192.168.1.220 or you can make your own. But you need to have it up and running. Your going to need the IP Address number, Subnet Mask number, Gateway number and Port number to put into your router.

    Client software or Browser based?

Yea, I have used them so I can fly x-plane with friends. Problem I had was the docs I was reading didn't explain about how to use your outside IP once you knew it to setup my dvr. But now Im good. Now if the client software I got was worth a crap I would be real happy. It seems like every software I use it a bad port over from Chinese.
  9. I have been using a 4ch stand alone dvr for several years and now I want a 8ch. Looking around on the net for one I stumbled on a site that has one capable of letting me view thru it that uses IE activex instead of me installing software. Seems to me this would be a positive feature if I were away from home and couldn't get to my own computer. Just use any computer with IE and activex. Also I would have go around installing software on systems thats not mine, like at work. However personally I like Firefox but it would need a plug in, and it could be flaky. Is this new? And I suppose you can still use software to view a dvr that has this ability? Dennis

    Client software or Browser based?

Its does. I just found in settings while viewing I have the ability to set guests so they can view only. This is nice. And I haven't even installed the client software yet. Im sure it will be even better. This is going to be so handy while Im away from home and if my security alarms I will be able to see if there is a reason to bust ass to get back or just call the sheriff and let him deal with it. Oh while Im here this whole IP address stuff had me completely beat trying to figure it out. What was missing in most of the docs I was reading is you want your IP address Charter gives me at my modem. Then setup the router to forward to the dvr. Its so simple now.

    Client software or Browser based?

Well I bought a 8ch that is capable of doing both. So far so good. I just this morning tried out IE here at work and it looks good considering the camera is looking thru the window screen. This is temporary. Now I need to make a username and password other than admin/admin. If I wanted to let someone view my cameras using IE I cant setup a guest username /password can I? Or could it be done thru my router? Hum.....
  12. How did you figure out it is your neighbors microwave?

    DIY Home DVR Recommendation?

Wow, I guess me asking for opinions on two different dvr's from two different online dealers is not a good thing. But then again these dvr's are not "professional" enough for this forum.

    Client software or Browser based?

Now I am confused. One business I emailed said all of his dvr's are capable of just using your browser. Is this true to any dvr that is internet ready weather you use client software or browser with activeX?

    ICRealtime

Well Sandy at IC Realtime finally sent me a couple of dealers names but after I did a google search for the DVR Pro 8 and saw the price of 3 grand I sent her a email back asking what the suggested retail is just to be sure. This is WAY out of my league.

    ICRealtime

Looks like Matt hasn't been back in a couple years. I emailed them anyway.
  17. 34Ford

    ICRealtime

Well ICRealtime dont have any listings for any dealers that I can find. Maybe they only sell direct from their site.

    ICRealtime

A lot of interest in this name all of the sudden so Im interested. I have a 4 camera setup for the last 4 years and its been working fine. But not as good as this system seems to be. Well I learned today that my dads car was stolen last night and it was right at his back porch, and about 200 feet from my bedroom. And yes, in the direction I dont have any cameras. I need to move up to a 8 camera system. So from the way this ICRealtime sounds Im betting a 8 channel setup is over a thousand dollars. I didn't see any dealers online.
  19. Hum.... My desktop that is capable of getting stills and video off of them is at the other end of the house from where the dvr is. And my laptop dont have any video inputs. I will see what kind of quality I can get thru my network this evening. The only complaint I have is if its a foggy night and the camera is on motion it will record basically all night. Dang it. So the way I have gotten around this is installing infra-red motion detectors to my dvr. No more false alarms from spiders, fog, and moths.
  20. I have been using 4 KT&C KPC-N600H1 since Sept. '05 and NO problems.

    Remote viewing DVR's

Oh ok. I see. I will try that this evening. Thanks guys.

    Remote viewing DVR's

Maybe he will be back, but in the meanwhile, I wanted to ask about the same thing. My computer can see the stand alone dvr thru my router using the software provided using the 192.168.1.200 port 80. And I installed the software at work. But it cant find it there using the same address. So I bet theres a real simple reason why not. Maybe my Charter cable provider want let me look at port 80?
  23. Why is it when your not logged in you have to scroll the screen at the bottom even at 1024 res?

    Motion sensors for dvr?

I bought a sensor at Lowes yesterday that you buy to add motion to flood lights. So far it is working with it temporarly sitting on top of the dvr. I have the sensor set on TEST so it triggers as long as you are in front of it and times out after about 3 seconds which is working just the way I want it. Only drawback is it needs AC run to it. Which brings up the question why not just pay more money and buy a battery operated sensor. Anyway I believe this will work better than all the false MOTION recordings Im getting. I mean why record leaves and rain and this one I hate, spider webs.
  25. Are these wired sensors typically whats used to have a motion sensor run to your dvr? http://homesecuritystore.com/ezStore123/DTProductList.asp?p=2_1_1_1_0_0_193 I picked this site just for ideas. You really dont see many cctv sites selling them. I just want to have that extra insurance that one spot is recorded whether the camera triggers it or not.
