What PC's are you using for your Geo Systems?

The price can still change even on a contract. http://www.dir.state.tx.us/store/buyeralert.htm "You may be able to negotiate additional savings for quantity purchases. Standard configurations and pricing will be reviewed and adjustments made as necessary. "

I work for a public school, k12 pricing is very different. Go to dell.com K-12 edu on the front page. select Texas DIR from the drop down and config a system. Also the 430 and 800 do not rack mount.

Your welcome, it is a fun way to test tech support. Call and ask if your system has a 4 meg bios or if you NIC has support for ASF 1.03 and 2.0 as defined by DMTF.

What PC's are you using for your Geo Systems?

I used a dell GX620 with a geo 1480 and am not very happy. I would use a poweredge 1800 next time. Not a big white box fan but I would never build my own. I know vendors that can produce the same config for a long time to my spec and warrantee if for 2-3 years. The nice part is most will load a custom image for me and tech support will give you any part you want same day for repair. If you buy enough you can talk your way into entire spare computer so you just swap the pc and worry about fixing the problem later. The trick is to find a vendor that will sign a contract, you give a yearly guaranteed purchase amount and they will do anything for warrantee and keeping spare parts in stock. Plus you have to spend tons with Dell to get any free lunch or hunting trips.

    Unsecured Wireless Networks

Funny the Houston cable provider wants to lock them up. http://www.twctheft.com/TypeOfTheft.aspx "WiFi Theft – WiFi theft occurs when someone installs a wireless network in a residence or business location and intentionally enables others to receive broadband service for free over their wireless network. Wireless networking is a great product, but when using a wireless network subscribers should always secure their home networks from unauthorized users. Unsecured wireless networks allow others to access a subscriber's network and potentially see all of the subscriber's personal files, allow potential criminals and terrorists to send untraceable communications or allow an individual to download illegal materials, such as copyrighted or obscene material that would lead back to the subscribers modem." I like the terrorist part, somthing you would not see a few years ago.
  15. This is a pic on how to do it with a geovision http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/5034/32channelsystem9gi.jpg The site I got it from has more detail but not sure about if I can link to them.
  16. I would love to know what there patent is? "Revolutionary digital surveillance system designed with Schools in mind. So advanced in features and concept that we have a US Patent Pending."
  17. kindergarten - 12 grade in the USA it is like this Not reqired education Prek3 Prek4 Kinder Elementary 1 2 3 4 5 Jr. High 6 7 8 High School 9 10 11 12 This can vary by district.
  18. I work at a school and found that most products that where targeted for school use where not as good and overpriced when compared to any standard system. The DVR does not know it is in a school, they just market to the school boards who love to hear prior k12 experience. I think the over priced part comes from specializing in the k12 market and knowledge of grants for safe secure schools that will pay a percentage for CCTV hardware. This is a school near me that just spent 2.5 million dollars on ~800 IP cameras over 32 campus. http://news.sel.sony.com/pressrelease/6107 The company that did that install seems to always win. http://www.convergint.com/news.php?num=15 Companies local to me that are big on K12 http://www.salientsys.com www.lensec.com
  19. What does everyone use for connecting wire to wire? For example, if you have to use a flying power lead and connect it to a Siamese cable. http://vitekcctv.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductID=164 Just a butt splice connector? Does anyone use a fork/ring connector for there box camera connections? I was thinking of soldering it but I thought you should make a mechanical connection before soldering.

STATIC IP ADDRESS-HOW DO I GET ONE

You can use ddns to point to a open port, then use ddns to point a port 80 name to the other ddns port that is open so you do not have to use the crazyman.myserver.com:8888 you can just use the crazyman.myserver.com

    Windows XP backup feature

Has tons of options http://www.2brightsparks.com/downloads.html The free version is at the very bottem.
  23. I have a Merit Li-Lin PIH-05 used indoor. The IR seems to be to powerfull, it reflects off the polished floor and makes the cam go white, then fade dark and start the proccess over again. all night. Is there anyway to filter some of the IR out like a lens cover? I was going to rig up some foil.
  24. I took down the brightness in the geo software and it no longer has a problem, but the image sucks compared to my KT&C. Both the day and night.
  25. I have a 415 next to another cam that has IR, and the 415 does not pickup the IR. Is there a setting I need to change or do they just not have that option?
