    DHCP server

Yes, Turn DHCP on then: On a WinXP computer: Start Run cmd ipconfig /all >>c:\ipold.txt Then look in c:\ for the ipold.txt file, it will have all the info you are currently have. Carry all the setting over but use a ip that is out of the DHCP range. Then I would disable the DHCP, it is more secure that way. If your DNS is the same private IP as the router ex. 192.168.1.1 I would look in the router config for the external DNS address and use that instead. Otherwise your router is acting as a DNS proxy. Then you can do another ipconfig /all >>c:\ipnew.txt to keep your settings documented.

    Linksys Router Going mad

If you disabled the DHCP then it will no longer give out a ip. But if the computers already received one prior to your disabling it the computer will not ask for another until the lease time is up. Some routers have this time set to a year or more. I would clone the MAC of one of the computers and give it to the router. A lot of cable company's use MAC filtering to prevent “unauthorized equipmentâ€

How To Demo? or Why Do Demos Suck

Thomas, How many clients have you tested your system with? I would like to see some scores. http://www.mindcraft.com/webstone/ or http://www.veritest.com/benchmarks/webbench/default.asp I will do the same with a Geo 800-4

How To Demo? or Why Do Demos Suck

Thomas, It is not that I do not like your demo it is just that MPEG seems so much more fluid than jpg. The jpg looks like a flip book to me. Also your system uses MS SQL for the backend and the developer edition only handles 10 concurrent connections, that scares me when it comes to scaling. I agree with rory on the Geo install, but after you get it to work it looks great. Most of the people I work with are not interested in security but viewing there workers remotely. The biggest cost of most business is payroll, if you get 5% more productivity because they think they are being watched that is more money than most would ever loose in a theft.

    Wireless

Anything over one watt requires FCC licensing, last time I looked into this you had to take a test and become certified just to get the license. This will tell you if you need to license the antenna http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/AsrSearch/towairSearch.jsp

    ADSL LINK DOWN

rory, You put the DVR in the DCHP range 192.168.1.100 - 192.168.1.149 That is not the best thing to do, you should make the DVR 192.168.1.2 - .99 or .150 - .254

    ADSL LINK DOWN

I would try a few things: 1. Fiter everything in the house. Alarm line, fax line, second lines (takes a two line filter). Even jacks with no phone in them. 2. Dowload a free visual ping tool, and keep a ping going. Good start for diags you can get a graph of when the falure happens. http://www.nessoft.com http://www.obesearmadillo.com/software/pingometer15.html 3. Give your gear a static address outside of the DHCP range and set the DNS server on your computer or DVR to the external ISP DNS server, not the internal 192.168.1.1 that the Linksys DHCP will assign. Should be 24.28.99.62 type address not 192.168.x.x 5. Make sure you have the latest firmware. And disable anything you do not use. 6. Set the MTU size Go to Start and select Run. Type in cmd (Windows 2000/XP) or command (Windows 98/ME) into the Open: field. Hit the enter key or click OK. The DOS prompt should open. At the DOS prompt, type in ping www.google.com -f -l 1492 and hit the Enter key. Lower the size the packet in increments of +/-10 (e.g. 1472, 1462, 1440, 1400) until you have a packet size that does not fragment. Begin increasing the packet size from this number in small increments until you find the largest size that does not fragment. Add 28 to that number (IP/ICMP headers) to get the optimal MTU setting. For example, if the largest packet size from ping tests is 1462, add 28 to 1462 to get a total of 1490 which is the optimal MTU setting. And just for somthing else. In your router on page one. fill in the host name and make it somthing unique. Fill in the domain name and clone the MAC address of the first computer the was used to setup the account. For example if I hooked up the USB modem to start service with computer A, use computer A MAC address on the router external side. Some ISP's (mostley cable) will filter MAC addresses so that you do not steal service. Hope something I said helped.

  23. Thanks, Thomas. If one party needs to know i guess that the store clerk would know and the customer does not need to. But what happens if two people in your store are recoreded that do not know? I was going to put the mic over my cash register but i am sure it would also pickup customer personal conversations.
  24. Where can I find a Louroe Verifact A or D with the power supply 75 feet of cable and the RCA connectin needed for my GV-800-4? Also does anyone know if it is legal to record in Texas?
