  1. I have built a lot of pcs when I was a tech person at a school but I don't now because i am some what concerned about warrentee. If I have a bad video card I have to deal with that supplier a bad harddrive it could be from another supplier etc. I think maybe purchasing a barebone box with motherboard/ memory and harddrive installed and tested may be a fair comprise then you can add your custom OS etc.

  2. Well I don't think their is any spek on using them on coax but we try to avoid on any finished product because if you add a cable then all the ty wraps get cut and have to be redone or they just add additional ones. Enrico makes a j hook with a little plastic keeper that will hold cables in place. We have also gotten dinged for not using plenum ty wraps if it is a plenum job. Not a big deal it was only a couple and we could change them. They do make a plenum ty wrap but it you use the steel j hooks they are cheaper. We have not done this yet but if you buy velcro in quanity you can get your name/logo printed on it.

  3. We use them a lot if you ever have to add cable it makes it really easy.

Just size them so you have a little extra capacity. We run a lot of cat5 and tie wraps for cable support are a no no. over time you can get a kink in the cable and it will not pass the higher speed certification tests.

  4. Big differences on new const vs rework or add ons.

Leave slack at camera end for sure. Customer always seems to want something moved a couple of feet.

ID camera and cable and keep a chart as you go. tag the camera with date and we even use a single brady label to see what the camera number is without having to remove ceiling tiles or take the camera apart.

We usually embed all the wire then terminate both ends. We don't usually test coax but all cat5 is tested.

J hooks and velcro on final product.

  5. Big reason we make everything ourselves is as someone said pulling through conduit etc. You damage the end you have to install one anyway.

Another big issue is if the job calls for Plenum cable. I have not seen premade in plenum. Almost all our school jobs are Plenum. It is also easy to keep a roll of Siamese on the truck and cut it to length where with premade you have to carry various length and then what do you do with the excess?

We are also trying to limit the different sizes of BNC connectors we stock.

  6. We are in the wire pulling business and it is pretty hard to estimate some jobs. We always are pretty close on the cable pull wire requirements but getting the hours correct is difficult. We just installed 4 cameras at a site and the cable pull ran almost 3000.00 it required lift rental and you just could not get from point a to b. We have lost some jobs but I try to leave some extra as sometimes the employees have more trouble than anticipated.

  7. Does anybody know if their is a third party mfg of that same type of cable.

It would be nice to have a more rugged setup. The customer looks at that tangle of wires and wonders. We try and make everything neat but sometimes you have to be so careful with the wires that you have a bit of a mess. I am keeping a couple of sets of cables in stock

  8. I know this was covered back in Nov but did not see a definitive answer.

I have a customer who had a admin password issued to an employeewho has since departed. I have an admin account on the machine Ver 7.05 but I cannot get in to get rid of or disable the other admin account. Any ideas if someone wants to PM me that would be fine also. I don't want to reload this whole system if I can avoid it.

  9. I have a geovision 1480 system that loses its connection to the lan. I am planning on changing nics and will check all patch cables etc. I am just wondering if anyone else has had any machines that will connect fine allow remote viewing etc for a while and then lose connection and not be able to reconnect until system is rebooted.

    Thanks

  10. Has anyone else having problems with the cables supplied with the geo cards? They seem to be the biggest problem with video lost etc. I am very carefull about tieing them down but it seems I am getting about one connection out of thirty that fails. Are there any alternate cables avaliable. I have used the old D style connections and they are hard to work with in the field.

  11. I am trying to interface a gv-800 ver 8.0 with a keyscan access control system I have the io box and the relay board but when I look at the geo docs it tell how to output a relay to a set of pins to turn off either monitoring or alarms which is fine. the problem is how to you ractivate monitoring or alarms without going to the geo sever. What I want to do is have a valid user be able to come to a building which has monitoring and notification on and be able to resent his card which will let him into the building do what he needs to do and then present his card at the reader on the way out to reactivate the geo system. In other words I don't want the maintance guy to have any access or need to get on the geo system.

    Sorry for the long post

    Thanks

  12. we pull a lot of cat 5 and phone wire and and two pieces of equipment get used on almost every job. a length of plastic conduit to use as a push pull rod cheap flexible and you don't much care if it gets damaged or lost.

I also always carry a length of chain and some nylon 200# line. If I have to fish a wall I tie on to it with the nylon and drop the chain in the wall I can tell if I have a fire stop and I can work the chain up and down to get down the wall. When I am sure I am to the bottem I just cut in my opening and hook the line. A lot better than wrestling with a fish tape.

  13. I am posting an update of my viewlog pproblems

I have been in contact with geo and they have the ability to log into one of the servers via the web client and I have set up a vnc for them to log into the machine. I replaced one server with a spare and have the problem server at my suppliers who is running hardware/virus etc tests so far no problems detected. What we did find was that this problem only occures when the server is attached to the customers network unplug it form the network and no problems plug it into another network and it still works fine. We still do not know what network setting etc can be causing this but the network connection seems to be key. any other ideas? I like to let people who are helping me how things are going as maybe the info may help someone else.

    Thanks

  14. does anyone know about the weingard card that is shown on the geo website. It just flashes up when you first access the site. Does anyone have a beta card or something. We are interested in tying a keyscan to a geovision server to allow a card read to turn on an off monitoring or alarms etc.

  15. I called my supplier and he gave me the BOSCH tech support number and one of the choices is manuals so I guess I should have started there. Thanks for everyone's help and I will post if I get these working with geovision
