Elec noise in camera image in UTP cable via passive balun

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have installed CCTV system in a retail shop. I used CAT5E UTP cable to have centralized power and video running in the same cable and using passive balun. DVR and camera power supply unit is mounted in IT room's rack.

I am getting lot of electrical noise and intererence on camera image. UTP cable length is about 130 meters. I have tried replacing camera, balun etc. can some body advise the solution on this please?

Regards,

Imti.

mmm very artistic...

100 ft? try coax it will always beat twisted pair for interference suppression

you might need a video amp at the start ?

sounds like your BALUNs are poo but then again the noise might be just too

much! -even active ones will fail.

COAX !

Which passive baluns are you using? 130M is roughly 425 feet, so cable length to transfer video using CAT5E is fine. Are you powering up these cameras through the same cable or are they localized within where camera is located?

Some answers from your end will render better solutions that we can offer.

Is the cable run near any florescent lights. That will create an image like the ones you show. Also any other voltage lines passing along with your cable. If you can't move the cable install a ground fault protector similar to the Pelco GIT100.

I would be concerned with voltage drop over that distance, also run the video on the blue pair where possible.
