Use a quad splitter, with a DVR?

Recommended Posts

I am kicking around the idea of using a quad splitter in front of ONE of the dvr's 4 channels. If it works, the smaller images would be mostly for observation. The three other channels would be more for security.

Opinions?

I do this for live viewing on my media server, works well enough but my media server has a real D1 MPEG2 encoder and the quality of the result is night and day from most DVRs.

ie DVD played through it is almost identical to DVD played via S video direct to the display.

That would be good if you had more cameras then the 4 channels on the DVR.

Otherwise I would just keep the DVR in the quad display mode.

I have used multiplexors for store displays, and mix images from cable, DVD players ,and cameras.

Nothing like watching four football games at the same time on a projection screen!!

I think he is talking about feeding a DVR from a quad so if it's a CIF DVR you would get 4 88x60 feeds in a CIF frame. Add in some questionable compression and I doubt the results.

Do you have a recommendation on a quad? I will be sending the quad into one channel of an avermedia 1304net. Should I pick up a budget quad?

8 cable company cable box with built in DVR. $500.00 month

1 8 channel multiplexor

1 projection screen $1200.00

1 HD PROJECTOR $2500.00

Watching 8 games with your own replay button...

PRICELESS!!

haha thats not what a DVR is meant for... but good work scorps.

I often test DVR's using a similar setup... either using multiple dvd sources or if I'm feeling lazy I use a 16 channel distribution amp backed off one dvd source.

It gets even better for me!

My wife is a football fan! It is hysterical to watch her scream and throw the remote just as our team makes a mistake!

Now that is priceless!

Well, I purchased a cheapo quad splitter on ebay. The equipment is made in China. It works better than expected. For a cheap quad, it was loaded with features...now if will only last.
