Hijacking this thread slightly off-topic, but the Panasonic rep was just in my office yesterday with the new WV-NP502 Megapixel box cam, same specs for the dome, and guys, it's awsome in low light.

They are shipping the box model for delivery in ~2 weeks, the dome in about 3-4 weeks.

If you can wait for drivers (rep said Milestone in next device pack, and Exacq has one on their test bench, too) This might be "the" one to wait for.....

I attended Mobotix training this week and I must say I am very impressed. The trainer Jens was top notch and answered every question we had. Unfortunately we ran out of time and didn't get into the VOIP and MxControlcenter but it was the basic course. I do plain on attending the advanced course so we can customize control center for our customers. Overall a top notch product from a top notch company.

All these Hi-res pics are nice but the real tests are:

person walking past at night -face shot for ID?

car driving past slow/fast -not a blur

IR illumination -does it help ? IR cut filters etc

Car diving in then backing out with headlights -can you get the plate ?

fog and rain can it handle in motion detect mode.

just to get things rolling....

Yes the Mobotix M12/D24 can to all of that and a lot more

I had a play with one and I doubt it. it had motion blur even with IR ?

Then it wasn't setup right. What was the Exposure Time set to? The range is 1/8000 to 1/1. Did you have the camera set the the left lens? Only the left lens can see IR. This camera can and will see without motion bur at night. I have seen it with my own eyes.

All these Hi-res pics are nice but the real tests are:

person walking past at night -face shot for ID? Yes 3 MP day image and 1.3 MP night image

car driving past slow/fast -not a blur With a exposure range of 1/8000 to 1/1 and custom exposure windows and added IR if needed not a problem

IR illumination -does it help ? IR cut filters etc yes dedicated monochrome 1.3MP night sensor 0.1 lux (t=1/60s) • 0.005 lux (t=1/1s)

Car diving in then backing out with headlights -can you get the plate ? Once again not a problem there is a trick you can do with the color sensor so you can read plates directly facing the headlights

fog and rain can it handle in motion detect mode.yes there are 2 ways of doing this (well there are more but) 1 is with reference windows and 2 with the built in PIR motion detector. You can also setup logic so both video motion and PIR motion have to trigger for a event to happen

just to get things rolling....

keep them coming

0.1 lux is not enough low light for my apps

any of the motobix that do 0.01 lux with no shutter adjustments?

Mobotix doesn't have shutter adjustments

0.1 lux (t=1/60s) • 0.005 lux (t=1/1s) is what you get

Gotta be "Time of exposure" or some such. Basically analogous to shutter speed.

so it would still be the same effect? slow video?

so it would still be the same effect? slow video?

(1/1) second = 1 second exposure setting slow video

(1/60) second = 16.6666667 milliseconds not slow video

The camera has a range from 1/1 to 1/8000 and you can set maximum and minimum manually or you can let the camera decide on the available lux level.

Same diff. Slow video in low light = DSS.

But Rory you set it to the level that you want with the acceptable image quality your customer desires .... it's not DSS

0.1 lux (t=1/60s) is not bad at all for Megaixel camera hell set it for 1/30 or 1/20 whatever you want or need.... I feel like I am arguing with my wife

So the bottom line, the END RESULT is the more you set it to see in low light, eg. slowing the shutter on CCTV cameras, the slower the video right? Correct me if Im wrong because thats my understanding so far from your posts regarding this "t" thing. If so I dont use cameras like that, if the chip cant work for low light then I dont buy it. EG. SuperHADs suck for low light, while Exviews work great. I would never use a SuperHAD Color only camera for a low light app, unless it had BW and IR ofcourse. If one has to slow the shutter (or slow the video another way) then its worthless as a CCTV camera.

For anyone who's interested in learning more about Mobotix cameras, ABP International will have an online presentation on Oct 15. And training class on Oct 21-23.
