what is background recording?

Recommended Posts

I don't know in what context that word is used but it could mean recording while watching something else in the player. It might also mean recording a stream you are watching in a live player such as windows media player.

It could mean what I call "trickle record"!. Where it records at very low frame rate but speeds up as it detects an event (motion or alarm).

Means its recording in the background LOL

Eg1. if the DVR server is running as a service.

Eg2. you are viewing live video, while it is recording in the background.

that is called continuous recording.

there is also pre and post recording, but thats based on event recording. Yes that also could be considered background recording, but it is not always recording. After all if it did, then event only recording would take up more space and use much more processing to eliminate the continuous recording.

im sure many developers have their own methods and names for things though.
