need help on FTP backup and email alerts problem...

Recommended Posts

hi all, i have difficulty in ftp backup - email alerts and need (lot) advice ...

i use avtech type avc751 dvr (h.264 - 4ch - firmware 1034.1014.1015.1016) with the following data:

NETWORKING SECTION SETUP :

- Static ip address : 192.168.1.10

- Gateway : 192.168.1.1

- Netmask : 255.255.255.0

- Web port : 80

- FTP user name : admin

- FTP password : admin

- Port : 21

- Directory : (my computer specified directory)

- Mail server : 64.4.20.184 (hotmail.com ip address)

- Port : 25

- Mail from : (my hotmail id)

- Ssl encryption : Yes

- User : (my hotmail id)

- Password : (my hotmail password)

- Email address : (my gmail id)

DVR SECTION SETUP :

- Detection / LS / SS / TS / Alarm : ON / 7 / 3 / 2 / off button

- Records / Quality : CIF / NORMAL

- Alerts : ALL ON / duration 5

and I used a Linksys WAG120N modem with a single data port forwarding as follows:

(Application / External Port / Internal Port / Protocol / Ip Address / Enable)

- HTTP / 80 / 80 / TCP / 192.168.1.10 / YES

- FTP / 21 / 21 / TCP / 192.168.1.10 / YES

- SMTP / 25 / 25 / TCP / 192.168.1.10 / YES

My ISP had a dynamic IP address that was already connected with DDNS and can do a remote-access with Video Viewer...

BUT by setting the above data, FTP-backup and email alerts always failed... I already tried to downgrade or upgrade the firmware...BUT (once again) found difficulty in obtaining the required files...

desperately needed aid ... thank you in advance ...

Do you pay for your hotmail acct? Hotmail does not provide a free smtp/ pop server. Gmail is the only one I've got to work.

I'm not sure if that is the case on AVC751, but their old firmware seem to have ignored the implementation of SMTP port and encryption format(TLS/SSL), which is required by gmail.

So you might will need to check whether the SMTP port and encryption could be set correctly. You need to set it, quit the setup, and re-enter setup to see if the values are still there.

gmail smtp port is 587 with TLS encryption.

(You don't need the IMAP portion).

BTW, you do need to enable POP or IMAP from the Settings page on your Gmail account, before you can use those methods for retrieval (login to Gmail, click Settings at the top-right, go to "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab)... you will probably have to enable one or the other for the SMTP to work as well.

...my DNS is set the same as my gateway addreess from ipconfig /all...

This will only work if your router does DNS forwarding. 'ipconfig /all' should show the DNS settings as well - it will OFTEN, but not always be the same as the gateway; use whatever it tells you.

Hi,

IP config shows

192.168.1.5 as my IP addresss and 192.168.1.1 as my gateway and DNS address. This is what I have configured in the DVR but the log shows email send failed.

Is there a particular version of the firmware that the AVtech KPD674 has to be on for it to work ?

Hi, I have port forwarding on at the router and I can access the DVR externally. I have set up DDNS and access it via the host name externally. Within the network settings on the DVR, I have DDNS off as the manual says its only needed if not using static IP address...

Port Forward and ddns has nothing to do with email notification setup.

setting smtp is like setting your PC's outlook or ol express; it's client side only. PF and ddns are for server setup, which according to terminator was correctly done.

Finally got it working - spoke to product engineer in Taiwan (thank you Chris) who was very helpful and sent me the latest firmware. After I installed it and reconfigured the DVR again, email alert started to work again as can be seen below.

Motion detection has to be set up correctly now otherwise you end up with loads of emails in the junk folder.
