Video- Setting the field of view

Recommended Posts

I made another video. You'll have to bear with me I guess- I'm having a bunch of fun with my new camera and I enjoy making videos. So whether this is goofy or of no interest, it's out there anyway!

Another great video. Informative too. May even point this to some of my customers when trying to explain field of view and the coorelation it has with getting detailed shots.

I'll bet there is a focus setting on your camera that will only make the camera module focus right after you pan or tilt it. That will take care of the problem that the camera sometimes has when something walks in its field of view and its having a hard time finding a point of focus. On some cameras, the setting is called KF, instead of AF.

Pretty good work, very useful for explaining FOV vs. detail... could probably be trimmed down a bit with not as much chatter, and definitely lose the porno soundtrack

Drivers going by are probably wondering who this crazy guy is wandering through the intersection staring at his laptop

Wait till I do the night time one- they'll think I'm stalking! I do yap too much I know. I wing this stuff, so with no real script I tend to yap. That was why I put in music- to maybe pull back on the yapping. But I still yapped and apparently the music bed came off as a porno track! LOL- too funny.

I have it set on auto focus- high speed. I may back that down a notch to mid speed focus and see if the camera does a better job at find and holding focus overall.

Thanks for watching!

Well, it's mostly just the "wakka wakka" intro... the rest just sounds like the droning trip-hop stuff they play all night in the restaurants we work in. I don't have a problem with the yakking as such, I just think it makes the video a little long for a noob to sit through... we all sat through the whole thing (I assume) because we were interested in seeing what you're doing, but for someone who's interested in learning about FOV, they might find their attention wandering. Little post-editing would fix that right up... maybe see if you can sync it all up to some Pink Floyd instrumental or something

Just some constructive criticism

Thanks for that. It's funny with this and the other vids I've done, I tend to make them longer FOR the noobs. Guys who know this stuff I figure take a peek and bail. But for amateur guys like myself who are just kinda finding their way, everything is a bit of a new discovery. And there's nothing worse than watching short vids on a subject you'd like to know more about. Youtube is littered with 2 minute vids that do practically nothing of interest even for a subject you may really want to know about. So these are done in an effort to try and be more complete. But there's something to be said for leaving them wanting more too. By the time I exhaust my effort on the subject, I'll probably strike the right balance. Let's hope it's not too late! LOL!

Well, I'm just thinking from my own perspective, but if I came into this forum as a noob asking, "How does FOV affect facial recognition", and someone pointed me to your video, I'd probably be getting impatient by the three-minute mark, thinking, "How does rambling about his netbook answer my question about facial recognition?" It would be more useful to me, in that instance, to see an edited version showing, perhaps, you in the driveway, walking toward the camera, showing how you don't get the detail with a wide shot... them maybe have a preset that zooms the camera in on your face that illustrates how a tighter shot gives more detail.

From there you could maybe switch to the two door shots (wide and close) demonstrating the difference in detail as well. The bit about burglars lingering at the door would be useful in a clip about choosing camera locations, but maybe not as relevant in simply describing FOV vs. detail.

The good thing is, you could put together some more clips on specific subjects just from editing the video you have already. And again, nothing really wrong with the clip as it is, but having some "sub-sets" addressing individual topics would be great to point people to.

And on that note... "I'm ready for my close-up, Mr. DeMille."

Would you believe this IS edited! HA! But yeah when I look at it, there is definitely fat to be trimmed.

I really wanted to use Stings- I'll be watching you. But youtube sucks now. They have some pretty strong filters for commercial tracks now. Almost always in that instance, the audio gets muted entirely. Maybe good you say?! I could not speak and use only captions. But again, that's not as effective to me. Trim the fat and stick to the point- should help keep the 'focus'.

I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt, but I've been wrong before when doing that. And I have this nagging feeling....

That funny

and I decide to grab whole file from YouTube

Ya...ok. Have some pot and a bed around when you show it. Apparently it's music to get laid to- or at least it was in the 70's.
